Changing Colors
By Jim Thompson
Apologies for labeling last month's issue "December 2022." I think most of you are astute enough to have figured that out--I was so concerned about getting the year correct, I ignored the month.
We will announce our new board of directors in March.
Let's get back to interesting topics.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last month, BMW introduce an automobile paint scheme that could change color on demand. Currently it is just monochromatic--goes from near white to dark gray. A rainbow of colors cannot be far behind.
Imagine when this arrives. We can paint our machinery, piping and tanks with colors that can correspond to the run condition colors that now show up on our operating systems' computer screens.
Then, operators and trainers can go out in the field and immediately see what is running what is not.
Next step--gradation of colors to determine the temperature in pipelines and tanks.
Then gradation in colors on pumps and other rotating machinery to tell at a glance the condition of the equipment--bearings about to fail, rotors worn out, and so forth.
I can't wait!
