Dear Colleagues,

Forward
As we look forward, we forget to look back
Look at what made us, look what we did
Look at our outsides, see what we hid
As we look forward, we hope to unpack

As we look forward, we forget to make space
Look at what shaped us, look at our grit
Look at what hurt us, made us unfit
As we look forward, we hope to hold grace

As we look forward, we forget what's inside
Look at our values, look how they lie
Look out of our own lives, ponder the why
As we look forward, we hope truth is our guide

As we look forward, we forget to stand up
Look at what happened, look what we lost
Look at the journey, consider the cost
As we look forward, we hope to build up

As we look forward, we forget to hold hands
Look at who came, look who is here
Look at who listened, who shed a tear
As we look forward, we hope love expands

As we look forward, we forget to teach
Look at our missteps, look what we learned
Look at our triumphs, trust that we earned
As we look forward, we hope for outreach

As we look forward, we forget where we are
Look at our station, look what it takes
Look at our children, honor the stakes
As we look forward, we hope better is not too far

As we look forward, look back again
Find the beginning to reach the end
As we look forward, look back and be brave
We do not know whose future we might save

Publications
Liz Dzeng and colleagues wrote a narrative review of J. Randall ("Randy") Curtis's legacy and scientific contributions in the fields of palliative care and critical care as a part of a special "Festschrift" supplement in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management celebrating his tremendous impact on the field. Randy is a beloved mentor to Liz and was diagnosed with ALS last year.
In collaboration with the Hospital Medicine Reengineering Network (HOMERuN), Margaret Fang, Anna Parks (previously UCSF), and Andy Auerbach published a study in PLOS ONE examining practice patterns and clinical outcomes related to VTE diagnosis, prevention, and management in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across 33 hospitals in the US.
Liz Dzeng, Lorraine Pereira, and Archna Eniasivam published a piece in the Journal of General Internal Medicine on incorporating restorative and transformative justice practices into Anti-Racism work.
Colin Hubbard and colleagues authored a research brief published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine which examined the rate of unnecessary antibiotic prophylaxis by dentists in the US.

Ritu Bansal
"Shout-out to Ritu Bansal for being an outstanding colleague! After sharing an office with her while on service at St. Mary's, I can say she is the type of collaborative coworker we all appreciate: Ritu was happy to discuss patient cases and share her clinical expertise, she was helpful in answering questions about EHR troubleshooting, and she always brightened my day with her positive attitude and sense of humor! Moreover, Ritu is a team player who goes above and beyond: when last-minute jeopardy was called for the direct care service, even though Ritu was attending on a busy wards team, Ritu saw and wrote notes for a few direct care patients to help out her jeopardized colleague! We are so fortunate to work with Ritu as a valuable member of our DHM team!"

Lena Loo and Kirsten Kangelaris
