Why We Do What We Do:

A story from Illinois Economic Development Corporation

I just wanted to share a neat story with you all.

I was informed yesterday, by our cook in the Benld Senior Center, that one of our volunteer meal deliverers, when delivering a meal to an elderly woman in Staunton, IL, smelled natural gas. The volunteer helped the woman phone Ameren to report a gas leak. Ameren arrived and, indeed, said she had a major gas leak and repaired the issue. Her son phoned the cook at the Benld center and thanked us for saving his mother's life.

It really is more than just a meal.

I love these stories and thought you all might.

Did you know?

Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on various dates in the United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similarly named festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan.
