Making Holidays Brighter Together

As the holiday season unfolds, we are scrambling to make sure our local families have enough to eat and at least one gift for their little ones.

Ms. P, the oldest in a large family, faced unique worries about whether her family would have enough to eat. "I come from a family willing to make sacrifices to make things work," she notes, emphasizing the resilience defining her family dynamics. As an undergraduate student living at home, Ms. P expresses gratitude, saying, "My family and I are very grateful to have a place to go for food when we don't have enough. JFS goes above and beyond in showing families they care."

At JFS, we are committed to ensuring families in need not only have enough to eat but also feel the caring touch of their community. As Ms. P navigates her undergraduate studies, she finds inspiration in the empathy and support she and her family have received. "I look forward to paying it forward to other families in need," she states, choosing to pursue a career in behavioral psychology to impact the well-being of others.

JFS' Holiday Gift Drive ensures that local families served by JFS have a special gift for their children at holiday time. We give thanks to our generous donors for contributing to bring more joy and light to the lives of the families we serve: Brandeis Middlesex Chapter, Hadassah at Stonebridge, North Brunswick Domestic Violence Response Team, NB Police Dept., Shalom Club @ Concordia, Shalom Club @ Venue, Ellie Eisenman & Family, Holly Cerame & community, Claudia Scherzer, and WuXi Biologics.

The year is not yet over! There is still time to help families in need. If you’ve had a good year, consider a special donation to benefit families in need of food. Haven’t finished your holiday shopping yet? Pick up a small gift for a child in need – drop it off before the end of the year to bring a smile to a local family. Want us to shop for you? Donate online and we’ll take care of everything. Thank you so much for your continued support.

JFS Citizenship Program:

Quarterly Successes Worth Celebrating

JFS' Immigration & Citizenship Services have been busy over the past 3 months screening 142 enthusiastic lawful permanent residents eager to apply for naturalization. Simultaneously, we've enrolled 100 students in our engaging Citizenship preparation classes, all contributing to the vibrant success of our initiative.

In the spotlight is Mrs. A, who, despite her advanced English skills, sought the support of JFS' Citizenship class to boost her confidence and review the 100 civics/history questions ahead of her U.S. Citizenship interview. With dedication both in and outside the classroom, she emerged victorious, passing her interview and proudly becoming a new U.S. Citizen.

Mrs. A joins the other 54 individuals who JFS worked with who passed their naturalization exam to become U.S. citizens this quarter. And we're excited to continue our work in supporting more aspiring residents gearing up to achieve this significant milestone by the end of December 2023. Join us in applauding their determination and celebrating our collective success. To help others in the process to become U.S. citizens, please donate online. Thank you.
