FRIDAY FLASH

December 15, 2023

A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

This morning I was asked by a kindergarten scholar if I was “the one who pledges allegiance to the flag of the United States of America…” There is something both quaint and reassuring that many of our scholars have no idea what I do all day. There are things that children should be able to take for granted, and, in a school setting, many of those things are my responsibilities. If they are clueless, then I am doing something right.

As parents, you also operate in these same blind spots. A child should appreciate when she is provided a meal, but she should not be burdened with an adult understanding of everything that goes into making that meal appear. So, even though they do not have the full vision, I would like to thank you for the care you provide your children. I especially appreciate you doing so in a way that allows them to feel the security that comes with being able to take for granted those things that fall far beyond their capacities at this point in their lives. You have some time these next couple weeks, go make some memories!

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D. | Headmaster

Health Office Reminders

Here are a few important reminders from our school health office:

  1. Please send your student to school with a sweater, coat, or a couple of clothing layers in the morning. Morning recess can be very cold. Many students are chilled to the bone because they aren’t wearing warm enough clothing. The school does not have sweaters and coats to provide all the students. Thank you for making sure your student is dressed properly for all outdoor temperatures.
  2. If your student has borrowed clothing from the health office, we ask that you clean it and return them as soon as possible. Thank you for helping us help your children!
  3. If your student has been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with a communicable disease, for example strep throat, has had surgery, or has been evaluated for an injury, please contact the health office. We ask that you obtain a written note from your child’s healthcare provider that states the diagnosis and return to school date and give this note to the health office staff. We want to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep your child safe and healthy at school.
  4. If your student has a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher, diarrhea, or vomiting: Do not send your student to school unless they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of any fever reducing medication, no vomiting for 24 hours without the use of anti-nausea medication and able to tolerate food and fluids, and/or no diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of anti-diarrheal medication. Consider keeping your student home from school when they have multiple symptoms of illness such as cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, stomachaches, headaches, or ear pain.
  5. Help your student to get plenty of rest. A good night’s sleep and bedtime routine helps your scholar to recover from the day, aids their immune system, and gives them the energy they need to succeed in the classroom the next day.

Your health office staff thanks you!

Jessica Larsen and Mary Corcoran, BSN, RN

Late Pick-up Policy

We have been doing very well with our on-campus student pick-up and drop-off routines as of late. Every year, it takes a few weeks for us to settle into a routine so that the pickup runs smoothly. Now that pick-up times are running efficiently, we ask parents to ensure they arrive on time to pick up their students.

We will begin enforcing our Late Pick-up Policy on Tuesday, September 5. Please make sure you are arriving within 30 minutes of the end of school to pick up your scholar in order to avoid being charged a late pick-up fee. Parents arriving after this time will be required to sign out their child from the MPR and may be assessed a $2 per minute, per student late fee. All late pick-up fees will be added to your Configio account and are due upon receipt. For more information, please see page 46 of our Family Handbook.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday - You will be charged from 3:35pm

Wednesday - You will be charged from 1:55pm

Half days - You will be charged from 12:25pm (excludes Half Day Kinder)

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
