We All Shine Brighter Together!
IHSTF 2024 is Putting Money Where
Their Mouth Is!

Written by Carmel DeStefano, ITA Board President

For years Theatre Festival has had a Scholarship program, the Cliff Aldridge Fund, for student artists who may not be able to afford the participation fee for the yearly All-State production, This fund founded by the Aldridge Family honoring their son, an All-State performer, who passed away at a young age. The ITA is striving to bolster this program and create a transparent process for students to apply.

In the spirit of including more student participants from all over the state in the Festival itself, the Association has expanded their IHSTF Scholarship Initiative. Some of the stipends could possibly cover such things as

  • Treating a new teacher to come see what Festival is all about.
  • Sponsoring a school that has never been able to attend Theatre Fest.
  • Sponsoring a school that has never been able to bring a show to the Festival.
  • Funding a special event, performance, or workshop during Festival
  • Commissioning a production
  • And so much more!

Have any other ideas? I'd love to hear about them. Do you think you might like to apply? Contact me, Carmel DeStefano, at president@illinoistheatre.org. Please, spread the word and watch for the application announcement in ITA's Friday Finds, IHSTF and ITA Websites.
Barbie's Production Triggered a Worldwide Paint Shortage
of This Particular Color

Submitted by Steven House, ITA College/University Rep.

COVID and the breakdown of the global supply chain, and the freezing temperatures in Texas has done a number to the paint supply here in the US. The Guild of Scenic Artists has a wonderful article talking to ROSCO about how the paint supply chain has only gotten back on track this Spring (and hopefully lowering in cost). But this week in more fun news a certain toy-based movie has led to a paint shortage of a specific ROSCO pink for the new Barbie movie coming out this summer. Read Miguel A. Melendez‍'s article attached to gaze in wonder at the very pink movie coming out this summer and how it might affect your local scenic artist for a while too.

Written by Michael Daehn
Submitted by Michelle Bayer,
ITA Secondary School Theatre Rep.

In this article Michael Daehn lays out a sensible and practical step-by-step guide on how to direct secondary theatre. This article is a fantastic tool for new theatre directors. However, even veteran high school directors will get a nugget or two as he reviews the directing process. Daehn's selection of texts for further reading at the end of the article are exceptional.
