You're invited to participate in the incredible array of programs and classes offered by Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources! If there is something you'd like us to provide that's not listed online or in RecConnect, please let us know! We are always interested in expanding our programming options!
 
Currently, our facilities offer open play sessions of Pickleball, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, and Preschool Play, as well as a fitness room at Joyner Park Community Center. Pre-registration for the fitness room opens each Sunday for the following week. Visit wakeforestnc.recdesk.com to register for a time! Please note: Cleanings are performed every hour, and you must have a RecCard membership to register.

November Spotlight

Pilates - Foundations (Ages: 18+)
Do you struggle to tie your shoes or move in the mornings? Pilates – Foundations is for you! This 6-week program is a great opportunity for those who are new to Pilates or ready to start again. You will follow a deliberate pace to cover the foundational principles of breath, neutral spine, and alignment. You will work towards a better posture, balance, and add more strength and endurance.

Pilates - Intermediate (Ages: 18+)
Looking for easy movement and flexibility? Pilates – Intermediate is a great 6-week program that will enhance your movement and flexibility, while deepening your knowledge of Pilates. Your focus is to challenge your core work, creating a faster pace, and add more flow in your weekly practice. These exercises will also integrate breathing techniques and alignment to enhance your strength and endurance.

PRCR Headlines

The Joyner Park Community Center (JPCC) is your one-stop shop for fitness, recreation, and health. Featuring multi-use courts, a walking track, a fitness room, and more, the JPCC is a dynamic environment designed to help you reach your fitness goals.

And now, you can follow these step-by-step instructions to reserve the second floor fitness room online via RecDesk.

Offering dumbbells ranging from 2.5-50 pounds, a multi-use bench, and a multi-use cable machine, the fitness room may be reserved in 45-minute increments during normal operating hours.

You're invited to enjoy the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of autumn while also learning about native trees during a series of "Fall Foliage Tours" at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.

Urban Forestry Coordinator Luke Devores will offer the free, one-hour tours “rain or shine” on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 12, at noon and 2 p.m. 

Parents and children of all ages are welcome, and no registration is required. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to assemble at the kiosk adjacent to the entrance to the Joyner Park parking lot.

Help us ring in the holiday season and launch our annual Holiday Donation Drive during the Wake Forest Cares Holiday Kick-Off on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 1-5 p.m. in downtown Wake Forest! 

Free and open to everyone, our Holiday Kick-off will offer a slew of activities the entire family can enjoy, including award-winning ice carvers, roaming street performers, community performances, a children's craft activity, and more! 

You will also have the chance to learn more about several Wake Forest Cares initiatives, including the PRCR Scholarship Program, and how it's making a positive difference in our community. 

From November 21-December 4, the PRCR Department will host a Virtual Bass Fishing Tournament for ages 13 and older and a Virtual Youth Fishing Tournament for ages 12 and under (non-competitive). Over this two-week period, local anglers can visit any public fishery in Wake or Franklin County to try and catch the biggest fish. Participants in the Youth Fishing Tournament may catch any species of fish, while anglers in the Bass Fishing Tournament will be limited to bass only.

Online registration for both tournaments is available through Thursday, Nov. 3  (search “fishing”). The cost to participate is $10 for the bass tournament and $5 for the youth tourney.

Participants in the bass tourney will receive a fishing scale to be used in the competition, while contestants in the youth tournament will receive an “Early Fisherman” packet. Fishing scales and “Early Fisherman” packets will be available for pickup on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-noon and 4-6 p.m. inside Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St.

A phone call from Santa Claus is on every child’s wish list. The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is making those wishes come true by offering Calls from Santa to kids ages 3-9 on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 6-8 p.m. 
 
Registration forms will be available online beginning Saturday, Nov. 26, and at the Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road, and Wake Forest Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St.
 
Completed forms must be submitted online or received at the Joyner Park Community Center or Town Hall by 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30. Telephone registrations will not be accepted. There is no cost to participate, but all calls must be local. For more information, email Recreation Program Superintendent Monica Lileton.

The September 2022-February 2023 issue of RecConnect, the Wake Forest PRCR Department's fall and winter program guide, is now available. Click on the cover image to the right to view the latest edition in digital format. RecConnect is also available in Adobe Acrobat Format (PDF).
 
Free printed copies of RecConnect are available at Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road, Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 N. Taylor St., Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St., and Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St.
 
RecConnect includes information about all programs, classes, special events, sports programs and registrations offered by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department. Registration opened Monday, Aug. 1. To learn more, call 919-435-9560 or visit us online.
Rec Cards

Wake Forest residents and non-residents ages 11 and older must have a Recreation Card (Rec Card) to access amenities offered at PRCR facilities, including JPCC. Rec Cards are free for Wake Forest residents.

The following fees apply for people who live outside the Wake Forest town limits and do not pay Wake Forest property taxes: Individual, $25; Family, $50. Any non-residents who prefer not to purchase a Rec Card, must pay a $5 Non-Rec Card Holder fee to utilize the amenities. An online profile must be created, and the fee paid to register for selected activity time slots.
 
To obtain a Rec Card, first create an online profile. Then, visit the JPCC to have your picture taken and present proof of residency. Acceptable forms of proof include a valid picture ID with your current address, a current utility bill with your street address, or other document that includes your full name and address. The app also provides contact information for every Town department, allows you to report non-emergency issues through SeeClickFix and delivers breaking news.
