Jane Healey has previously visited the Nevins Library for her novel "The Beantown Girls" and held a virtual visit with us for her novel "The Secret Stealers".

Books will be available for purchase and signing, thanks to our friends at Haley Booksellers. Please save your seat for this free program by registering via the link below.

What's Happening in Youth Services?
A Visit from the Methuen Fire Dept. & some Messy Art
April is a busy month in the Youth Services Department, with some new programs, special programs, and added sessions of popular programs.

First, though, we’d like to take care of some “housekeeping” details regarding two programs: “Books & Bubbles” now has a suggested age range of infant-18 months and will be held on three Wednesdays in April, and “On the Move!” now has a suggested age range of 18 months-5 years old and will be held on three Fridays in April; these changes were made to better suit kids’ development and to accommodate caretakers’ varying schedules, and we may further tweak which days we present these programs in the future.

Meanwhile, another popular program for youngsters, “Sensory Baby,” was such a big hit when we introduced it last month that we’re expanding it to two sessions in April. Likewise, kids will have more opportunities to Read to Murphy the Dog this month, as he’ll be visiting us three times! Also for younger patrons is a new program called “Messy Art,” where 3- to 6-year-olds can have fun creating without worrying about making a mess (so you’ll want to dress them in stainable clothes)!

For older kids, check out our new “Tales and Scales Book Club,” for 9- to 13-year-olds who enjoy fantasy fiction that features dragons, as well as a “Fairy Jars” crafting program for 10- to 13-year-olds.

And don’t forget that you can still register kids in Grades 6-8 for the Babysitter Safety Training on April 20; students in this program will learn about infant and child care, child development, basic first aid, choking and injury prevention, and more. The program costs $40; registration ends April 10 and, to secure your registration, you’ll need to bring payment to the Children’s Room by that date.

Last but not least, we’re offering another Special Storytime this month with members of the Methuen Fire Department, who will come read aloud some stories and do a “show and tell” with firefighting equipment.

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes, book groups, and teen/tween programs -- keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and Facebook page to learn about upcoming programs!

Happy April, and Happy Reading
