Book Launch for Former Mayor Dennis DiZoglio's
"The Value of Political Capit$L"

Wednesday, August 29 7pm

The former Mayor has written a very timely account of Methuen politics from his time as mayor, titled The Value of Political Capit$l.  Mr. DiZoglio was Methuen's first modern-day mayor, taking office in 1994 and holding that office for 6 years.  He faced many challenges and accomplished much during his time in office, and is now sharing the insights he gained in this new book.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing, and refreshments will be served.  We are anticipating a crowd for this event, so please register on our website or by calling the Main Desk (978-686-4080 x20) and carpool if possible! .

Baseball as American Culture
Wednesday August 15 6:30pm

U. Mass. Lowell professor Frank Morris joins us to show how  baseball galvanized a divided nation in the 19th century and developed into "America's Pastime" as an allegory to our cultural identity in the decades to come.  Includes a history of the Boston Red Sox and a look at how the game both reinforced and challenged key cultural themes over time.  Frank lectures around New England on literature and sports in American culture.

Summer Reading Winds Down in August

Bubbleology
We're sad that summer is over, but we are excited about our end of summer celebrations! On Thursday, August 16 at 11 AM, Keith Michael Johnson is presenting Bubbleology for kids entering grades 1 through 6. He fascinates audiences with the art and science of soap bubbles by building beautiful sculptural creations. You may even be selected to be enclosed inside a gigantic bubble!

Toddlerbilly
Then on Friday, August 17 at 10 AM we will have Matt Heaton's Toddlerbilly Concert. He makes music entertaining for both children AND caregivers. His songs are a mix of rockabilly, surf, American roots, and Irish traditional music. So come on down for family fun!
