In light of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision, the Center for the Women of New York unequivocally reasserts its support for reproductive rights and unfettered access to comprehensive health care for women and people who can become pregnant. For over 50 years, a woman’s right to choose has been settled law and central to the progress we have made as a country in elevating women and in reducing inequality. The Court’s decision to reverse Roe v. Wade is simply another manifestation of the same regressive forces that always appear when people demand equal protection under the law. For most of our lifetimes, we have lived with advantages won by generations before us. It now falls to us to do our part to secure the rights every woman deserves.
Today we enter a new phase, one that we embark on not for ourselves, but for our daughters, and their daughters. Just as our founder, Ann Jawin, created the Center as a way to continue the fight for equality, we must, and will, fight to keep safe and reliable access to reproductive care.
The right to abortion is enshrined in New York State's constitution for anyone living in or visiting NY.
