Making Moves!

We are thrilled to report that two of our families received housing vouchers with the help of their case manager and moved directly from Easton's Promise into their very own apartments.

Another family has put down a deposit on their own apartment, and will be moving out of our transitional housing and graduating from the S4 Program next month!

One of the single guests at Evelyn's Place will move into one of our off-site transitional apartments at the end of this month.

Watch the video below to hear from one of our guests, Israel, about his experience with TIS and the S4 Program!

More Good News!

Two of the rooms in Easton's Promise have been renovated, and we are now scheduling interviews to welcome new families into the S4 Program.

A teacher from Easton Elementary School launched an after-school program for the children at Easton's Promise! We are excited to share that the program will be continuing during the summer. Our children will meet from 4 pm to 5 pm three days a week (two with a teacher and one with a volunteer) to participate in fun activities like art projects, games, and more!

Thank you to the generous donors who provided tickets for all the children in our program to see Finding Nemo at the Avalon Theatre! They also purchased refrigerators for two of our transitional apartments. We can't thank you enough!

Special thanks to the Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford for donating pool passes for the George Murphy Community Pool as well as children's clothing for the families in our transitional housing program!

Our life skills classes keep rolling along, and our guests are getting a lot out of the experience. Please help us congratulate eight of the single men and women at Evelyn's Place, who will be graduating from Untangling Relationships class with their Case Manager DeWayne this month! They have also started to learn about poverty through the Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin' By World program with Operations Director Fran.

ο»ΏAt Easton's Promise, a new group of guests has started Money Fundamentals with Case Manager Roland.

All of this is made possible by YOU and your generous support. There are not enough words to truly express our gratitude.

We are expanding our Apartment Program!

Transitional housing is a very important component of the S4 Program. Once guests reach certain milestones while staying in one of our shelters, they are invited to stay in one of our transitional apartments.

They begin by paying a portion of the rent while we subsidize the rest. Over a period of approximately two years, their portion slowly increases until they are able to take over all expenses. This process allows guests the time to learn important financial habits and responsibilities, while having the supervision and support to weather setbacks should they arise.

With the opening of Evelyn's Place, we have many more guests going through our program, and there is a greater need for transitional housing. We have been incredibly fortunate to work with the Housing Commission of Talbot County as well as four private landlords to procure apartments for our guests. Over the past year, we have expanded our program from ten to sixteen off-site apartments!

We have also recently formed a partnership with Chesapeake Neighbors, a division of the Arc of the Chesapeake. Chesapeake Neighbors is dedicated to purchasing and building affordable, accessible housing in our community. They will be leasing a portion of all the apartments they purchase or build to Talbot Interfaith Shelter, including two apartments being built as part of Port Street Commons, which just broke ground this month. We will keep you posted as the project unfolds!
