Biodiversity, Conservation Science, and
Climate Change - GCSE 2022 Annual Conference
June 21-24, 2022
The Global Council for Science and the Environment (GCSE) is holding a major sustainability event on June 21-24.

The theme of their 2022 Annual Conference is Biodiversity, Conservation Science, and Climate Change. This conference aims to identify successful and sustainable conservation strategies to accelerate the pursuit and implementation of science- and evidence-based solutions, to help preserve global biodiversity for current and future generations of our planet.

The GCSE is also making a point to address the inherently socio-political and economic aspects of conservation strategies, keeping in mind the importance of partnering with Indigenous peoples and local communities.

Featured speakers include top experts from the United Nations, international governments, think tanks, plus iconic environmental activists like Paul Ehrlich and Jane Goodall and more. The conference will honor the legacy of Thomas Lovejoy, who made long standing, seminal contributions to the study of biodiversity, conservation biology and climate change.
The Place-Based Circular Economy:
The Story of North Friesland
Virtual Event - June 16th 12:00-1:30 pm EDT
The Circulair Friesland Association is working in the Netherlands to make the Friesland region the most circular in Europe by 2025.

On June 16th, we are co-hosting a 90-minute webinar where Circulair Friesland will present on the success of their programs in bringing community stakeholders together to collectively create a circular economy. Our aim is to learn from their work and see how we can apply the lessons of North Friesland to our communities. In partnership with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, George Mason University’s Business for a Better World Center, and the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, join Leaders in Energy for this webinar to learn mutually beneficial lessons on the circular economy.

NOTE: Register for the event, even if you can't attend live, to receive the recording.
More about Circulair Friesland:
The Circulair Friesland Association, a group of over 100 local governments, schools, and businesses, is dedicated to creating a more circular economy in Friesland. These groups that are a part of Circulair Friesland interface with each other with the goal of continuing to make Friesland a global leader in circularity.

Their work finds its fundamental principles in Metabolic's Seven Pillars of the Circular Economy and is focused on 5 important sectors: plastics, water, agriculture, and construction. Circulair Friesland hopes that they can find local solutions for these problems that will one day be applied at a global scale.
Circular Economy Working Group Meeting
June 8th 6:30-8:00 pm EDT
June 8th - Monthly Virtual Meeting. The Leaders in Energy Circular Economy Working Group is dedicated to building a circular economy in the DMV area.

A crucial step in creating a more circular world is understanding the ways that we can make changes in our communities, whether it be through policy levers, activism, or simply providing information that people may not have had access to otherwise.

The group is currently focused on gathering data that will be used to make recommendations for a regional circular economy roadmap. We invite people who are interested in the circular economy, in this region or other regions, to attend.
