Our 39th and 59th Partner Families have paid off their Habitat homes! |
Congratulations to Bertha and Florentino Rodriguez on paying off their Habitat home this year! As some of you may remember, this family was the recipient of our 39th home back in November 2002 in Denton. They worked hard to build this home and make all their affordable mortgage payments, achieving this goal in just 20 years.
We also want to congratulate Rosa and Leonel González, recipients of our 59th home, on paying off their Habitat home this year! After moving in to their home in Sanger in July 2005, they worked hard to make their affordable monthly mortgage payments and achieve this goal in less than 17 years.
Thanks to your support in helping to build these homes and surrounding these families with a sense of community and hope, they had the foundation, stability, and financial flexibility to make forward-looking choices, raise their children in a secure home, and create a better future for generations to come. We are proud to partner with these hardworking families - and you!

Habitat brings together people from all different faiths and backgrounds for the common goal of building homes and helping others. Progress on our 106th home, as part of our 2021 Interfaith Build, is moving very quickly, thanks to the collaboration of staff, volunteers, and community partners all acting on a common vision of building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Ove the last two weeks, our volunteers successfully installed multiple items onto our Interfaith Build home at 506 Wye Street in Denton: the "blue board," a special type of drywall; the siding; windows and doors; and the fascia, which is a transition trim between the home and the roof that supports the shingles and keeps out moisture. Keep in mind, many of our volunteers have little to no experience in construction, yet Habitat continues to build high quality, energy-efficient homes that pass all inspections, year after year. A generous heart and willingness to serve goes a long way at Habitat Denton!
As part of our Interfaith Build, ten congregations of different faiths across Denton County have come together to support this build and the Crawford Family. Special thanks to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church for providing lunch on Saturday, April 9!

Community Spotlight: Douglas A. Brown |
On Sunday, March 6, Douglas A. Brown, US Army Air Corps veteran and long-time resident of Flower Mound, donated a refurbished computer to Dina Sosa and her family to have and use in their new Habitat for Humanity home, which they moved into this past January as part of our 105th build. But this was not just a random act of kindness. Brown, born in 1925 and an active volunteer at numerous senior and veteran organizations in Flower Mound, has given away over 1,200 refurbished computers!
When Brown stopped working in 1997 to take care of his wife who was sick with cancer, he often worked on desktop computers at home to stay busy. One day, someone working on Brown's house asked if he would give his high school son a computer to do his homework, and thus began his work on giving away refurbished computers. Bob "Scuba" Pedersen, a volunteer on Habitat's Build Committee, connected Brown with the Sosa Family through Habitat and helped set up the computer in Dina's home: "Dina was very excited to receive this computer, her new home looks amazing, and she is a happy Habitat homeowner!" Thank you, Doug, for your support of our families in this unique way!

Your new or gently used household goods and building supplies can help Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate, and repair local homes. Our ReStore accepts a wide variety of donated items, including appliances, cabinets, building materials, furniture, flooring, and more. However, there are several types of items we cannot accept, like sofas, mattresses, and clothing. For a full list of items our ReStore accepts (and does not accept), please visit our website.

Save the date for our next Financial Education class on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 AM at the Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors, presented by Independent Financial. This seminar is free to attend and all members of the community interested in preparing their finances for the large endeavor of homeownership are welcome.
