Here at Northshire, we are committed to bettering our communities in whatever ways we can. Our charitable giving through monthly round ups at the register is made possible by our loyal customers in Manchester, VT and Saratoga Springs, NY. One of our largest and most impactful charitable endeavors is the annual holiday Book Angels program.
For many years, Northshire Bookstore has worked with area schools in and around Manchester and Saratoga Springs to gather the names, ages and interests of children who are not likely to receive books for the holidays. First, we put their names on paper tags and hang them on trees in our children's sections. Then, customers in both stores can select a tag and buy a book (or multiple books) for that child. Our staff carefully wraps all the donated books, labels them with the name of the child recipient, and the books are delivered to each child at their respective school just before the start of December break.
With your help, we are able to distribute more than 1,000 books to children at our local schools every year.
If you would like to participate in our Book Angels program this year, our booksellers can always help you choose a book or two. Or, if you prefer to make a monetary donation and let us do the choosing, you can do so at any register or via our website. Northshire also donates many books towards this effort each year and we make sure that every "angel" on our trees receives at least one new book, carefully selected just for them.
We are proud to have inherited this wonderful tradition, and so appreciative of everyone who has bought a book or donated over the years. The incredible and consistent support that you, our customers, give to this particular labor of love means the world to us. Thank you for helping us spread the joy of reading to the next generation of children in our towns.
