What's Happening in Youth Services?
Scientists & Mindful Movement in Youth Services in May
Spring is in full swing, so it’s only appropriate that we’re launching a fresh springtime crop of new programs this month! For preschool-aged children (ages 3-5), try our “Mindful Movement” program, which uses stories and movement activities to encourage young children’s social-emotional development in a fun and supportive setting. Also new for this age group is “Sprouting Scientists,” where your youngsters can enjoy stories and hands-on activities that show them how fun and intriguing science can be.

It’s also time for our quarterly “Birthday Bash,” for kids aged 3-8 who have birthdays in April, May or June – we’ll do some reading, crafting, and celebrating! And for homeschoolers (aged 5-10) we’re starting a “Homeschool Hub” program where kids will learn about a different topic each month, including a fun hands-on learning activity.

For older kids, check out our “Tales and Scales Book Club,” for 9- to 13-year-olds who enjoy fantasy fiction that features dragons, as well as our “Ten to Teen” program for 10- to 13-year-olds, featuring a new topic and activity each month – lots of fun, and lots of variety.

Last but not least, we’re offering another Special Storytime this month with guest reader Maureen O’Dowd, retired media specialist at the Timony school. Many parents will remember her from their school days, and she’s delighted to pay us a visit to read aloud some stories and perhaps meet some former students’ children!

As ever, we’ll also have our usual array of preschool programs, storytimes, and book groups, and of course Murphy the Dog will pay us a few visits – keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and Facebook page to learn about upcoming programs!

Happy May, and Happy Reading!
