A Return to Pre-Pandemic Hours!!
Two months in a row we get to start out with great news.

As of June 1st, we will be returning to our pre-pandemic hours.

Mon-Thur 9am-9pm
Fri & Sat* 9am-5pm
*Open Sat. Labor Day through Mid-June

Meeting Rooms will also open for use in September.

And, have no fear, if you are one of our patrons who has enjoyed our curbside delivery service, we are planning to continue that during all of our open hours.

We will begin to welcome groups back this summer, as we use our beautiful Library grounds to host some programs. We will have children’s programs and some adult discussion groups outdoors under our trees and small tents. Fridays will see a return of the Methuen Farmer’s Market on the front lawn as well.

As of this time many of our patrons, especially children, have not been vaccinated, and we ask that you be considerate of others when you come to the Library, and wear a mask when you are near other patrons and staff. Everyone would like to toss off our masks, but we should remember that lots of people still have health concerns. We hope that the Nevins Library can be a place where everyone feels safe and welcome!

We look forward to seeing you all this summer at the Nevins Library! Join the Fun!
Puzzle Swap!
June 1st to June 12 During Open Hours

Who's ready for a new jigsaw puzzle? Let's have one more jigsaw puzzle swap before summer begins!

Come in with the jigsaw puzzles you've finished (and have all the pieces) and leave with new-to-you puzzles!

There's always something new on the table(s), so you may want to come in a couple times during this swap and make sure you have plenty to do on the front porch or at camp this summer.
Virtual Author Events
The Nevins Library, alongside other Massachusetts libraries, are pleased to present two virtual author events in June.

First, Tuesday June 10th at 7pm, meet local author Maryanne O'Hara for a discussion of her recently released book Little Matches: a Memoir of Grief and Light, her story about losing her daughter Caitlin to cystic fibrosis and finding meaning in the aftermath of that loss.

Then, Tuesday June 21st at 7pm, join New York Times bestselling author Pam Jenoff, in conversation with Jane Healey, around her latest novel The Woman with the Blue Star. Set in 1942, the book tells the story of 18-year-old Sadie, trying to survive the horrors of the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto and Ella, an affluent Polish girl who begins to help Sadie secretly.
Porch Chats
Jun 9th, July 14th, Aug 11th & Sept 8th at 10:30 AM

Looking for a little friendly conversation? Want to share something great you’ve read with others? Want to just sit on our front porch for a spell and have a listen? Stop by the Nevins Library for our new Porch Chats, taking place on our front porch this summer.

A librarian or two will chat up some great new books we have on the shelf, to get the conversation going. But where the conversation ends is up to you! This will be fun and very casual, and who knows where it might lead?
Summer Reading for Adults

The Nevins Library is excited to announce that our summer reading program for adults is coming back - and this year, there is a special grand prize!

This year, the program will last 7 weeks and starts June 28th. There will be a gift card giveaway each week. All you need to do to be entered into the drawing is read or listen to a book and fill out the entry form online. That's it!

In addition, all the entries are kept until the end of the program for the grand prize drawing - which is a brand-new Kindle Fire 7 (with Alexa)!

There will be additional ways you can enter the drawing for the grand prize as well - keep an eye out for those this summer. The grand prize drawing will be August 16th. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for providing the Gift Cards.
On June 25th, 26th & 27th at the Salem, NH B&N Store library patrons can help the Friends of the Library by ordering books for summer reading at the beach, the pool or in the backyard. The Friends will get a portion of the proceeds from the sale to help fund Library programs. Look for the flyers in the Library, online or at curbside pickup.

The Friends Monthly Dine-Around continues too! Why cook on a summer evening, when you can eat out or pick up takeout and help the Friends of the Library at the same time! Fundraiser coming up: The Chateau is June 24th (lunch or dinner). Watch for flyers at the Library Main Desk.
Krispy Kreme Donuts Fundraiser
Krispy Kreme Donuts return to Methuen!  Pre-order donuts at the Library Main Desk anytime in the first two weeks of June (last day to order is June 14th), pay with check or cash and pick up your freshly-baked donuts at the Library on June 16th.

Krispy Kremes freeze well, so order a second dozen---you know you want them!

What's Happening in Children's?
Birds of Prey! Wally! Ed the Wizard!
We are so excited that we’ll be able to hold in-person programs at the library again! We’ve got lots of special events throughout the summer, and in June you can look forward to meeting New England Birds of Prey on the library lawn, as well as a zoomed visit with Wally from the Red Sox and a zoomed lesson on animal balloon twisting with Ed the Wizard.

Other in-person programs include Books & Bubbles, Story & Craft, Bilingual Storytime, Story & Stretch: Yoga for Kids, Craft Club, and Family Storytime – plus we’re returning to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm for our Friday morning Little Bookworms sessions (beginning June 25). Check out the Children’s Calendar on the library website for further info on live and taped programs and to register for those that interest you.

And of course we’ve got you covered when it comes to tracking summer learning and activities – not only can we offer paper and online logging tracking, but children can earn snazzy beads for summer learning and for participating in Children’s Department programs and contests!

Beginning June 15, come by the library to get registration packets and to start your Bead Bonanza collection. (Your child doesn’t have to be school-age to participate and to earn beads, by the way.)

Last but not least, we’ll have a few Pop-Up Libraries Visits at Mann Orchards (by The Barn, (so you’ll probably need to get ice cream, too) – 11am-1pm on June 5, July 1, and August 1.
