It's November and the library is humming with activity.  Our "Calendar of Events" is full of great happenings here at the library.  Our FAll series about the craft of writing has gone very well and will culminate this month with a program designed to encourage new and aspiring authors to put 50,000 words together and write their own "Great American Novel".  We are an official NaNoWriMo site (see below for more info".  Reader services is sponsoring some holiday programs as well as hosting an exciting Author event with Elin Hilderbrand coming in early December.   Don't forget that you can access your library account 24/7  from your home computer, renew materials and check out ebooks whenever you want in the comfort of your own home.

See you soon,

NaNoWriMo - Say What?

NaNoWriMo

What in the world is NaNoWriMo?? Well, it is short for "National Novel Writing Month" and it is an international movement to encourage people to devote the month of November to writing the book they have always wanted to write! It is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought fleetingly about writing a novel.

Since we at the Nevins Library value books, literacy reading and writing, we are joining the NaNoWriMo movement to encourage Methuen residents to pursue their creative dreams and WRITE! We have three events coming up in November to help you:

November 4 - 7pm - Jay Atkinson:  Write Everyday:  Keeping up the Passion for Your Writing
Local author Jay Atkinson will speak about the craft of writing.  Jay has written 7 books and is scheduled to publish his next Book in September 2015.  Jay will share some of his thoughts on the need to write everyday and how to keep focused on the process of writing as a craft.

November 8 - 1pm  Got a Tale to Tell

Come join the Methuen Writers' Workshop  at the Nevins Memorial Library. We meet monthly to share our work, offer honest and supportive feedback, and get inspired by each other's writing.

November 21 - 5pm NaNoWriMo Lock In

Come to the Nevins Library on Friday evening for a "lock-in" event...if you need time away from the distractions of daily life, to simply sit and write, write, write, join us for some focused quiet time. We will have refreshments to keep you going! For more information contact Beth at the Reference Desk at 978-686-4080 ext 12.
