While we’re all happy about the easing of restrictions, we must remember that COVID 19 is still with us. If you feel ill, please don’t come to campus and please get tested.

 NEW  PAID INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY


The Kekaulike Title III program is offering a paid internship opportunity for Native Hawaiian undergraduates attending UH Maui College and who are interested in transferring to UH Mānoa.


This research-based internship will offer opportunities to work with/within educational programs, library science, and ʻāina based sites. Facilitators will work with accepted students to place and schedule internship sites that best align with their academic goals. Students can earn up to $4,000 in 4 weeks!


Application deadline is May 30th.

 NEW  NHHP HUI KUMU SESSIONS


Randy Awo and Dr. Jonathan Osorio will be continuing the discussion Nā Hua Hoʻohuli i ka Pono began in April about engaging non-conservation communities in important conservations about our environment and building collaborative relationships with them in order to advance our collective work to preserve and protect our natural resources for future generations.


These virtual sessions are free and geared toward college students or emerging professionals (0-5 years of paid experience) who are interested in building a career in conservation. Please feel free to share with those in your network who may be interested in attending.

NEW FRIENDS OF HALEAKALĀ NATIONAL PARK SCHOLARSHIPS


The Friends of Haleakalā National Park is looking for applicants for three scholarship grants of $1,000 each for the 2022-2023 academic year. Successful applicants will be, or already are, studying in a field related to the biology, ecology and/or conservation of ecosystems such as that of Haleakalā National Park. Eligible are Hawai’i residents either graduating from high school this spring and admitted into an accredited college or university, or continuing a college program, within the United States. The application deadline is May 31.


The three scholarships honor the lives and work of Don Reeser, Superintendent of Haleakalā National Park from 1988 to 2005, Mary Evanson, co-founder of the non-profit Friends of Haleakalā National Park (FHNP), and Dr. Fern Duvall, a dedicated advocate for every aspect of the natural environment of Maui.



The Friends of Haleakalā National Park is a non-profit that supports the Park’s mission to preserve and protect Haleakalā's unique ecosystems, scenic character and associated Native Hawaiian culture.

 NEW  TWO NĀ PUA NO‘EAU MAUI SUMMER EVENTS


1- Registration for Moʻolelo a Pena event is open for Grades PreK - 3rd with preference given to our Native Hawaiian students. In this 90-minute free program we will read a Mo'olelo from, “Myths and Legends of Hawai'i Coloring Book” and then create a painting. *Please note: only registered keiki PreK-3rd Grade will receive supplies for this event. Tuesday, May 24, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with check-in at 5:15 – via Zoom. Deadline to register is Friday, May 13th.

2- Applications are open for ʻIke Kaʻa: Vehicle Knowledge Summer Institute for students currently in grades 9 through 11 or who hold a Driver's Permit. This one-week, in-person Institute will allow students to learn about vehicle maintenance and care, hands-on experience led by our UHMC Automotive Instructor, as well as huakaʻi and cultural enrichment during our afternoon sessions. June 13 – 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily. Institute takes place on the UHMC Campus. Deadline to apply is Monday, May 23.

NEW KAPI‘OLANI SUMMER CAMP CALL FOR PROPOSALS


Kapi‘olani Summer Camp is on from August 1st to August 5th. And camp organizers want to hear from YOU! Last year, 45 presenters and 245 participants from across Hawai‘i and beyond joined in this free, Zoom-based event. They’re hoping to make an even bigger splash this year with some summer professional development for everyone...and a fun-filled (in-person) Friday Field Day!

2022 HAWAI‘I FOODBANK DRIVE


The Annual State Employees Food Drive ends this Friday, May 13. If you haven’t already, please make a donation today if you can. All donations made through our campus will directly benefit the Maui Food Bank, which assists people on the islands of Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi. 



Non-perishable food donations may be dropped off to Shawna Pabingwit in Pilina Building, Room 134. Monetary donations are being accepted via the Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s Online Donation page (refer to the image in the left column). More information here.

UH COVID-19 Guidelines and related policies are subject to change depending on the status of the pandemic. We will continue to work with the HWBWG in monitoring the conditions in Hawai’i. If needed, we will implement mitigation measures that may include vaccination or testing, expanded requirements for mask wearing, etc. Please see the UH COVID-19 Dashboards and the UH COVID-19 Response Based on CDC Community Level website for up-to-date information regarding our campuses.


COVID-19 TESTING – If you need a COVID test, please call the Campus Health Center at 984-3493 to schedule an appointment. If you have medical insurance, please bring your medical card and ID when you come for testing. But you do not need medical insurance to get a test. The testing is free.
