Dean's Update: There is No Such Thing as a Small Library
At the start of this past month we were all in preparation mode for the new academic year, welcoming new students and faculty and directing them to places of interest. In the Libraries, we were pleased to offer returning students a few more seats in newly renovated spaces and were ready to help faculty identify publications for teaching and plan management of their data for research. In spite of the pride I feel in these successful moves to transform the Drexel's Libraries into a university research library, I admit that this is the time when my perspective sees our shortcomings. These are demonstrated by students disappointed when they cannot find a place to work in the library or by a new faculty member surprised that we do not acquire materials in foreign languages. However, on the day before the fall quarter began, I was reminded not to think of a library as a half-full or half-empty glass.

Research Data Management Forum
The Libraries invites you to join campus researchers for informal discussion on research data management issues at Drexel. This Forum is for faculty, graduate students and staff involved in managing data through the research life cycle to identify concerns, learn about and help shape support at the campus level. The session will begin with a discussion on Preparing Data Management Plans [DMPs] and include time to network with peers and support providers as well as focus on topics of common interest.

Four Drexel Students Test Their Peer's Knowledge
The Fall Knovel Academic Challenge launched on Monday, September 28th at midnight, kicking off five weeks of questions to challenge STEM students in engineering concepts and questions.  There are four Drexel students who aren't invited to participate in this year's challenge - because they designed the questions. The questions utilize Libraries resources and test students' research knowledge.

Highlighting Archival Acquisitions
Each month the University Archives appraises and acquires documents, photographs and electronic files that capture and record Drexel's unique history. These new acquisitions are gifts and transfers from University departments, Drexel alumni, current student groups, and other donors. View highlights of our latest acquisitions and come back next month for more!
