June 2022 - Updates from the Forever Parks Foundation
Hello Friends of the Forever Parks Foundation,

We hope all of our friends have enjoyed the past few months of spring. We have been very busy at FPF and have quite a few updates and upcoming events to share with you!

Pearland's first all inclusive playground!
We hit an amazing milestone this past month. On April 25, the Foundation in conjunction with the City of Pearland Parks and Recreation Department presented a resolution to purchase our playground equipment. What does this mean? It means that we were able to place an order for our customized equipment which we are hoping to arrive for installation by the end of summer! This is huge milestone towards getting the playground open to the public.

In addition, Council also unanimously voted to approve the naming of the playground to be the "Ed Thompson Inclusive Park." Representative Thompson has been instrumental in helping us receive a bulk of the funding and we couldn't be more excited to honor him in this way. We even tricked him into coming to the Council meeting so we could surprise him in person. You can read more about the night here.
Exciting news to share is that The CenterPoint Energy Foundation Board has voted to fund $125,000 of the overage costs related to inflation and supply chain demand. We are still funding to raise the gap but they have put us so close! While we have all the funds for the equipment and that is on order, we still need to continue to raise for surfacing and installation costs. Please if you are able to contribute to help us close the gap, donate today!
Mayor Cole's 1st Annual Charity Golf Event
If you would like to further support the playground efforts, please join us on Monday June 6th at the Golfcrest Country Club for Mayor Cole's 1st Annual Charity Golf Event benefiting the Forever Parks Foundation. There are limited sponsorship opportunities available, please see here.
Reaching our Disc Golf fundraising goal!
Thanks to your generous support, we're incredibly excited to share that we exceeded the $7,500 fundraising goal to upgrade and improve the Centennial Park disc golf course baskets for the players in our community. We will purchase the new hardware immediately and work with the City on installing the new equipment. We look forward to sharing the date for the course ribbon-cutting once installation is complete!

With all of the positive news we have to share, we would be remiss to not acknowledge the terrible tragedy that occurred in Uvalde, Texas last week. All of us Board members were devastated at the senseless deaths that occurred. Please make sure that you are taking time for yourself and if you can support financially, there are a number of verified accounts to donate to which can be found here.

Continue to stay safe and stay well and we hope to see you on the trails soon,
Kelly Moody, FPF Board President
