Celebrating the Class of 2022!
It is soon time to celebrate the Class of 2022! We are excited to announce that Graduation for the Class of 2022 will, once again, begin with a community parade!

We heard from our previous graduates that they LOVED all the community support they got at last year’s parade, so we wanted to repeat it again this year! You can check out the parade route at this link. Let’s come together and cheer for the Class of 2022! We are so proud of them! For all the details about how we will be celebrating our grads, check out this website.

You can also honor this year’s graduates by considering a sponsorship or general donation to help make the end of their time at Wilson even more special! The Wilson Education Foundation offers various opportunities to donate to support the Graduation Ceremony, Fireworks, and Cap & Gown.

"Super Nikki" Mural Honors Memory of Wilson Student
On Wednesday, May 4, at the opening of our High School Art Show, a special dedication was held to honor the memory of a fallen classmate. In January 2004, Nikki Overman, a beloved Lincoln Park Elementary School 6th grade student, passed away from surgery complications. To honor Nikki, in May 2004, a superhero mural was created with Super Nikki in the center standing proud surrounded by her favorite superheroes. Years later, the Lincoln Park Elementary School property was sold. In May 2022, a new mural and film project was created to honor Nikki.

“Super Nikki: A Story of Kindness,” a short film documentary, explores the strong connection Nikki had with those around her and the lasting impact Nikki left behind. The 18-year Nikki story is told by her friends, teachers, and those that worked on the original Super Nikki mural. In addition to debuting the film at the special ceremony, the two reproductions of the mural from the former site at Lincoln Park Elementary were also unveiled. One reproduction was given to the family. The second mural will be donated to the school district. You can learn more about the project by viewing the video project that was created by Joe Palumbo, director of the Grandview Gallery.

Wilson Middle School French Students Achieve Success on National Exam
Thirteen Wilson Southern French students have ranked nationally in the 87th annual event, according to Lisa Narug, National Director of Le Grand Concours. Le Grand Concours is a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students were evaluated for their written, oral, and listening comprehension skills in French. In spite of the pandemic and all of the difficulties overcome in schools this past year, nearly 43,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2022 event.

All of Southern’s participants ranked in the top 50 nationally, including Keagan Eisenhofer, Benjamin Kulp and Jonas Bare, who received honorable mentions for finishing in the top 20. Students who received certificates of merit were Mikaela Brown, Sara Baines, Harrison Eck, Sabina Houck, Kaitlyn Holland, Sophie Wilchek, Lily Schneider, Matteo Vucetic, Max Maoury, and Georgia Vecchio. We are very proud of all of our National French Contest participants!

Middle School Field and Stream Days
Our Middle Schools took the learning outside the classroom this week! All students at both Southern and West participated in Field and Stream Day. This event utilized the grounds at West Middle School to expose students to a variety of great activities while reinforcing lessons they have learned throughout their time in middle school. It was great to see our kids outside enjoying some new experiences with their classmates! Thank you to the staff and volunteers who made this amazing experience possible!
