Fostering a Growth Mindset Presentation

Career Services Slidedeck on laptopsreen

Missed Laura Faulcon's "Growing Your Students" session from Reynolds In-Service Day? Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! This insightful presentation focused on how you can cultivate a growth mindset in your students by connecting your course objectives with their career and professional goals.

By showing students the purpose behind what they’re learning and how it aligns with their future aspirations, you can foster a deeper sense of motivation and purpose to learning. Using your existing course objectives to bring students back to this focus helps them develop a growth mindset, empowering them to view challenges as opportunities for growth, both academically and in their career paths.

Stay tuned for more sessions like this and discover how small shifts in teaching can make a big impact on student success!

Observation Form Open Comments

It's that time of year! These observation forms have been developed over the past year based on CETL faculty fellowship work, the Faculty Senate input on teaching excellence, and with other stakeholders to better align with the four aspects of the teaching domain that faculty are evaluated on.

Attached to the form are both drafts that have been developed. Ideally, these will replace the current faculty evaluation forms for in-person courses. (Online courses will be evaluated based on QM and the outcomes of the Chancellor's online learning workgroup).

Please complete this form no later than Friday, November 1, 2024 by reading the documents and answering the questions. Please be as specific as possible.

Thank you for your feedback!

Equity Reading Group Seats Still Available!

Promoting Belong book cover

"Promoting Belonging, Growth Mindset, and Resilience to Foster Student Success"

by Amy Baldwin, Bryce D. Bunting, Doug Daugherty, Latoya Lewis , & Tim Steenbergh

In recent years, growth mindset, resilience, and belonging have become popular topics for research and practice among college educators. The authors of this new volume deepen the conversation around these noncognitive factors that significantly impact student success. Along with offering support for the development of learning mindsets, this book contains strategies for faculty and staff to consider as they create initiatives, programs, and assessments for use in and outside the classroom.

There are still spots available in this semester's Equity Reading Group. CETL's Equity Reading Group is a faculty-led initiative where participants read books together throughout the semester to discuss strategies to cultivate inclusive and equitable approaches to teaching and improving student learning and success.

Dr. Jennifer Hitchcock is leading this fall semester's sessions. Upcoming meetings will be held in Zoom on October 17, November 7, and December 5. If you have any questions or would like to participate, please email Jennifer Hitchcock to receive a copy of the book (supplies limited) and the links to participate in the Zoom sessions.

New Quizzes: Add Time to Existing Quiz Sessions

While a New Quiz attempt is ongoing, instructors can moderate a quiz and extend the time allotted for the quiz. Additionally, the student course-level accommodation modal link is moved to the Student column. Previously, this was linked in the Accommodations column.

This feature allows instructors to accommodate students who may need extra time due to various circumstances by providing additional time during an active quiz session.

New Quizzes: Manage Student Result View

In the New Quizzes Settings, instructors can select the timing and visibility of feedback and correct answers for students.

This feature helps instructors enhance learning by timing feedback to reinforce understanding, encourage independent learning, and prevent cheating. It also allows for better alignment with review sessions and ensures fairness by standardizing the feedback process for all students.
