Humana Commercial HMO Plans and Changes for Your Practice

Humana intends to exit the Commercial HMO business by December 31, 2024. As a result, effective July 1, 2023, APP and Humana are ending the existing delegation agreement for this line of Commercial HMO business. This means all authorizations and claims for dates of service July 1, 2023 and forward must be submitted directly to Humana for management and payment. Updates to pharmaceutical industry interaction policy: To ensure the highest standard of ethical evidence-based care, financial stewardship and protect the best interests of our patients, the new Interactions with the Pharmaceutical Industry policy includes enhanced guidance beyond the legacy gifts and vendor policies. Review to learn how to keep interactions above board when on site. Remember, samples are not allowed at any hospital sites.

Chemotherapy restrictions lifted: Thanks to the tireless work of our Pharmacy teams, we have secured significant additional supply of carboplatin and cisplatin. Based on our current supply, we are now able to safely lift restrictions on use. We will continue to monitor the situation. Reach out to your local oncology pharmacist if you have questions or need assistance.

Beware of scam calls targeting physicians: There have been several reports of physicians and APCs receiving suspicious calls claiming to be from law enforcement like the DEA. The DEA will never contact a registrant via telephone regarding a legitimate investigation or legal action. Review this DEA scam alert for details and review this tip sheet on how to identify and respond to scam calls. If you discover your DEA number has been compromised after reviewing your PDMP/PMP prescriber history report or by receiving a call from a pharmacy about a suspicious prescription, review this compliance guidance.

Upcoming license renewal deadlines: Illinois MD and DO: Renew here by July 31.

Introducing Pediatric Updates: We will regularly share timely and relevant updates for pediatricians. Have you heard of the free ECHO Autism program? Learn how to better manage ASD through case-based learning and didactics every second and fourth Friday by registering here
