Career and Technical Education is for every student.
Through CTE, students explore career opportunities to determine what would be “right” for them, and perhaps more importantly, what it is that they do not want to pursue.
Students who participate in CTE are significantly more likely to stay in school, graduate, and go on to post-secondary education.
Students who participate in CTE can earn dual college credits to kick-start their post-secondary education.
Students can earn industry-recognized credentials that allow them to enter career employment immediately after graduation, perhaps taking advantage of an employer’s tuition reimbursement benefit to continue their education along a career pathway.
Employers benefit from CTE by helping to inform training curricula that aligns with their skill needs. Employers can participate by sitting on advisory councils, visiting classrooms to speak with students, providing equipment for students to train on, and by creating opportunities for job shadowing and internships.
These are some of the messages shared by the panelists in the September 20 West Valley Workforce Success Panel webinar , where three West Valley CTE leaders discussed their programs, successes, student benefits, and how businesses can support.
Our thanks to our panelists:
Lauren Serrato, WESTMARC’s Media Relations Director, moderated the discussion.
