Services and Zoom Links
June 2, 2022
Dear Friends,

This weekend there is much to celebrate. Some of you will be getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. I imagine the service from St Paul's Cathedral will be spectacular, and I for one am thankful for the PVR because 5.00am is a tad early! For 70 years the Queen has performed her duties with the utmost seriousness and has faithfully lived out the vows she has taken as monarch and head of our Church. God save the Queen! If the women of Grace want to dig out a hat for Sunday, feel free. We will take a photo after.

This Sunday is most importantly Pentecost, one of our major festivals, and the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit which empowered the early disciples to live the gospel of Jesus with great boldness and courage. The Spirit continues to dwell among us, as our inspiration, encourager, reminder, teacher, advocate and empowerer. Let us live with hearts and minds open to listen for the leading of the Spirit in all areas of our life.

Our ONE service will be at 9.15am with Bishop Riscylla Shaw as our preacher and celebrant. +Riscylla is Metis and will be sharing some of the overlappings of FNMI and Christian teaching with regard to the Spirit. Pentecost is regarded as the 'birthday' of the church and so birthday cake and soft drinks will be served after the service.

June is National Indigenous History Month and also Pride Month, and we will recognise and support these at Grace. Sunday services will use a FN Eucharistic prayer and the FN versions of the Apostles Creed and Lord's Prayer.

Let us be grateful for so much to celebrate. We are blessed with a variety of cultures, peoples and God-given differences to live with, and all in a month when the sun tends to shine and the earth is in full bloom. June is a happy month. Enjoy!

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord's and everything in it. The earth is the Lord's, and all who dwell therein.

Blessings for this weekend filled with celebration!

Yours
Rev Nicola

Fashion Show and Afternoon Tea
Sale and Silent Auction
Tickets: $40 per person (on sale soon)

The ACW are looking for donations and volunteers as they prepare for this dazzling event.

Do you have a china cup and saucer you can donate? Or perhaps a teapot or carafe? In fact, any afternoon tea paraphernalia such tiered cake stands, etc. would be gratefully appreciated. Items can be dropped off at the church. Questions, email Wendy Dottin at wdottin@rogers.com.

Joan Bufton continues to accept broken gold or silver and unique costume jewellery so please look through your jewellery boxes and send any of these items to Joan. Questions, call Joan Bufton at 905-294-6240. Donations can be dropped at the Church or in Joan's mail box.

As always, these events require a tremendous amount of volunteer help, especially at the end of the event. If you are available on June 23, 24 or 25 and can spare any amount of time, whether it be to help organize and set up on the days leading up to the event, or on the 25th, or, even have half an hour at the end, please contact Wendy Dottin at wdottin@rogers.com.
FNMI Month

Please take advantage of our small FNMI library in the Narthex near the office. Lots of non-fiction and fiction to read and learn from. Services in June will include FNMI liturgies and prayers.
Pride Month

Grace folk are invited to participate in the Proud Anglicans section of the Pride Parade on Sunday June 26th. We will leave straight after church.
Altar Flowers

If you have a neighbour who is unwell or would be cheered up by a bunch of flowers, please tell us and we will wrap them so that you can deliver them as a gift from the church.

If you wish to give flowers in memory of loved ones or in celebration of an event, email or call in the details to the office. The usual donation for flowers is $50.00.
Warehouse of Hope, St. Catherines

The Warehouse of Hope in St. Catherines send out 14-15 containers a year of medical supplies to Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, Ecuador and the Ukraine. They will take any medical supplies, for example: hygiene accessories, medications in their original bottles and containers, diet supplements, bandages, etc.

Jean Hoover is coordinating the collection from our parish. If you have any medical supplies or medications that you no longer need, please bring them to the church on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings (9am-noon).

Do not leave these items outside the building or unattended in the church. Please give these items directly to Jean Hoover, Maria Castle, a Warden or Rev. Nicola so they can be placed in a secured area. Any questions please call Jean Hoover at 905-796-9926 or the office.

PLEASE: NO NARCOTICS
If in doubt, check with Jean Hoover

Final Date to Donate: June 3rd, 2022
Green Stage

We enter the Diocese's Green Stage of Covid restriction on June 1 which means a number of things: masks are optional, communion in both kinds will be offered, coffee hour etc. may resume. Please remain aware of other people's personal space and preferences. Many will still prefer to offer a sign of peace rather than shake hands. You may receive from the common cup, but it is theologically fine to receive just the bread. Some people will cross their arms over their chest as the wine comes by or just read out and touch the cup. Any of these practices is acceptable. In whatever way you feel comfortable, you are welcome at the Table.
