On October 13, Dr. Lindsey Hardegree, Executive Director for the Episcopal Community Foundation of Middle and North Georgia, will join us for worship and for Christian Formation (SNICK and Adult Forum combined) after the service. She will  preach about ECF's call to serve the poor and oppressed in our Diocese, and then during Christian Formation she will address the topic of planned giving, and how we might continue the work of the church in a long-term sustainable way that benefits both your parish and the least among us.

It's been a while since we chatted! A Parish Meeting will be held after the service on Sunday, October 20. Come ready with anything you'd like the Vestry to take under consideration at their retreat in November.

Vestry Meeting

October 20

The October Vestry meeting will be held on October 20 after the Parish Meeting.

Here are the Minutes, Treasurer's Report, and Statement of Activities from September 2024.

Send in your names for All Saints' Sunday

On November 3, in observance of All Saints' Sunday, we will read the names of our loved ones who have passed away. Send the names of people whose memories you would like to honor to Erin in the church office by Wednesday, October 30 to be included.

Last Call for 2025 Budget Requests

The Vestry will begin drafting next year's budget at its October meeting. If you are in charge of a ministry area - or if you know of an organization or event St. Nicholas should consider supporting financially - get your request in to Erin in the office, pronto!

If you need information on 2024 spending, Erin can help you with that, too.

Book Club Meets November 6

The St. Nicholas Book Club had a great meeting on oCTOBER 2 discussing Wendell Berry, his life and poetry, and his 7th novel, Hannah Coulter. We read his poem, "The Peace of Wild Things," to appreciate the beauty of his mind and words.

The members chose books for the November 6 meeting and also January 8, 2025, skipping December due to Christmas activities.

NOVEMBER: The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes

From Barnes & Noble: A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single setting, The Sense of an Ending has the psychological and emotional depth and sophistication of Henry James at his best, and is a stunning achievement by Barnes. Tony Webster thought he left his past behind as he built a life for himself, and his career has provided him with a secure retirement and an amicable relationship with his ex- wife and daughter, who now has a family of her own. But when he is presented with a mysterious legacy, he is forced to revise his estimation of his own nature and place in the world.

JANUARY: Six Four by Hideo Yokoyama

… is an extraordinary thriller steeped in a genuine sense of mystery and suspense. Readers are rewarded with a fascinating deep dive into Japanese journalism and policing, all while an urgent procedural unfolds to locate a killer who may be related to a cold case that haunts the novel’s protagonists. Whether you picked up on or missed the clues which point to the Unforgettable climax, you absolutely must talk to somebody else who read the book as soon as you finish. Happy Birthday to...

the Rector's Discretionary Fund!

Did you know that St. Nicholas shares the love of Christ by providing assistance with utility bills? The Rector's Discretionary Fund offers up to $100 per applicant, once a year, to help folks make ends meet.

The need is great in our community and the Fund runs low from time to time. Wouldn't it be a fantastic way to celebrate your birthday - or any other milestone celebrations in your life - by making a tax-deductible donation to the Rector's Discretionary Fund?

Look for envelopes in the narthex to use for your celebratory donations.

Thanks to Drucye Cox and John & Charlotte Winsness

for including the Rector's Discretionary Fund

in their September celebrations.
