1. What do you like best about UC San Diego?

I love UCSD’s location next to the beach. It gives me a beautiful place to unwind and relax when I need to and it’s an easy distraction from any stressors going on in my life. I don’t know when I will get the opportunity to live near the beach again, so I try to take advantage of this as much as possible.

2. What advice do you have for future Native college students?

My advice to future Native students would be to find your community on campus and become involved, whether that is through organizations on shared cultural ties or through your interests and aspirations. In my experience, finding the people that I could lean on for support or even simply relate to helped a lot with transitioning on campus and feeling like I had a place here, so I would definitely recommend this for anyone entering.

3. What do you like to do in your free time?

Besides going to the beach, in my free time I also love to read. I am currently reading the last book of The Poppy War series, but I enjoy many other books in the fantasy, romance, and thriller genres.

What We've Been Up To

On Friday, April 14th, we had our annual "I'm Going to College" Program, a fun and exciting early outreach program for fourth-grade students. We partner with Chámmakilawish, The Pechanga School, to plant the seeds of a college-going mindset early in the academic career of our Native American youth. Their visit included a trip to the "Financial Aid Office" (PATHs Program), the "Registrar's Office" (Cross-Cultural Center), the UCSD Bookstore, and a college class experience provided by Birch Aquarium. New to the Program included an "Art Appreciation" class which consisted of a visit to Fallen Star, part of the Stuart Art Collection. Before leaving for the day, students posed for a "graduation" picture and were able to take home a brochure with their picture. Current UCSD Native Tritons volunteered to help with these Native youth, connecting and inspiring them to pursue higher education in their future.
