News From Your Vestry!

The work of the Vestry doesn't slow down for sabbaticals or summers! Here are some of the latest items of news and updates that may be of interest to you:

- Doug Adkins has agreed to serve as our Associate Rector starting this July!!! Please join us for a reception in his honor on July 2, after the 10:30 service.

- Buildings & Grounds is currently engaged in some upgrades and repairs in the Nursery and adjoining playground. The concrete slab has already been installed, the fence will be replaced very soon, and other misc tasks are underway.

- The holes in the parking lot will also be repaired soon, let us all rejoice! The contractor has not been scheduled yet, but on the selected week they will begin their work on a Monday so the lot should be done in time for use on the following Sunday.

- The Finance Committee has begun its annual budgeting process. If you are a committee chair and have received a budgeting form, please give it your earliest attention.

- The Vestry has formed these new or returning committees:

   * The Capital Improvements Campaign Committee (ad hoc) - co-chaired by Stacie Court and Mark Richardson. They are in initial planning stages, and will keep the congregation abreast of news.

   * Endowment Committee - This committee, tasked with monitoring the congregation's endowment funds, is chaired by George Krause.

- Joy Village is holding their summer camp in our Education Building during the weeks of June 12 and June 19. This not expected to impact any of our ministries. Please welcome them if you should see them!

- Per the Financial reports provided by our wonderful Treasurer Les House, we are doing well financially going into summer. Please continue to be faithful with your pledges during the summer so we don't experience a slump.

- Our supply priest for most of the month of July is Bob Dendtler. Fr. Dendtler has previously served as Rector to Christ Church in Kennesaw, GA, St. John's Episcopal/Anglican in the Virgin Islands, and Church of the Mediator in Washington, GA. Please be sure to welcome him to St. Gregory the Great!

In love,

LeeAnne Krause, Senior Warden

Come join us tonight, Friday, June 16, when we will watch Field of Dreams (1989)! “Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella is inspired by a voice he can’t ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife, Ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true.”

Join us in Parish Hall and enjoy some popcorn and soft drinks - or bring a blanket and a picnic dinner! The movie begins promptly at 7pm.

Joy Village Summer Camp

We welcome Joy Village to St. Gregory's during the weeks of June 12 and June 19. They will be holding their summer camp in our Christian Ed building from 9am-3pm each day, Monday-Friday. Please welcome them if you happen to be on the property when they are!

Attention Acolytes!

Please be aware that we have now switched to Sign-Up Genius as a way to schedule acolytes, rather than Wade putting it together each month. Sign-Up Genius has worked very well with our lay reader ministry. Please take note of this and sign up when Ron Balthazor sends out reminders ! The link for the sign up is here.

If you are new to St. Gregory’s or are not new but have just forgotten, we have a little red wagon in the narthex in which we collect food for the Athens Emergency Food Bank! Many times we announce their specific needs for the week or month, but sometimes we don’t! All non-perishable food is welcomed and appreciated! Please help us fill the Little Red Wagon!

Doug's Ordination to the Priesthood

Doug's ordination to the priesthood is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 at 2PM, at The Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta.

If you are interested in carpooling to this event, either you need a ride, or are willing to provide a ride to another, please contact LeeAnne Krause to let her know.

Reception for Doug Adkins

Join us after the 10:30AM service on Sunday, July 2, as we celebrate Doug’s ordination to the priesthood AND the wonderful news that he has agreed to serve as our Associate Rector !

Coffee hour needs your help! Danielle keeps us well-supplied with coffee and lemonade, but we need parishioners to sign up to bring either homemade or store-bought goodies…nothing fancy, just cookies, muffins, fruit, pastries, or cheese/crackers. There is a sign up sheet next to the kitchen counter in the Christian Education building.

Remember: Coffee Hour is an ideal time to meet and get to know our visitors and newcomers!

The Parish Life committee will meet at 10:30AM Saturday, July 8 for planning mixed with a bit of tidying. Come join this fabulous group of gregarious Gregorian party planners!

The dates for VBS 2023 are July 17-20, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM. During the week of "Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs," children will explore what all living things need to live - shelter, food, water, air, and community - and how they can have compassion for the living earth, especially their local ecosystem. Children will consider how to become co-sustainers and participants in the work of God's creation. Using Psalm 104 as a grounding text along with additional supporting scripture, children will examine the inter-connectedness of the whole earth.

Volunteer Needs: We especially need adults and/or youth to assist with:

Music during Nightly Opening and Compline

        Bible Teaching and Stories

Decorating the Parish Hall in advance of VBS

In addition, we could use a couple extra helpers each with Arts/Crafts; Games/Movement; and Food Set-up and Clean-up.

Adult Spiritual Formation

The Adult Spiritual Formation Sunday morning Bible Study group meets at 9:15AM and is currently on a journey through The Book of Acts of the Apostles. Please join us!
