Rabbinic Candidate Visit

SAVE THE DATES!

After reviewing the candidates that have applied to-date for our senior rabbi position, the Rabbinic Search Committee is delighted to announce that Rabbi Michael Rose Knopf will join us for the weekend of January 4–7, 2024.

Rabbi Knopf has been invited to meet our congregation after an extensive set of interviews by the Search Committee. The weekend will help us better determine if he can lead TBE forward in the years to come and succeed Rabbi Hammerman, who will transition to the position of Rabbi Emeritus in July 2024.

Events have been carefully planned to allow ample opportunity for congregants to observe and interact with Rabbi Knopf as he leads services and Torah study, meets with various constituent groups, visits our religious school Kesher Beth El, and experiences the full vibrancy of our TBE and Stamford Jewish communities. Rabbi Knopf will be accompanied by his wife Adira. Their three children will be staying home with their bubbie.

Introducing Rabbi Knopf

Rabbi Knopf is presently the rabbi for Temple Beth-El Richmond, where he has served for almost 10 years. Named one of “America’s Most Inspiring Rabbis” by The Forward, he is passionate about building an inclusive, supportive, and deeply intertwined community, where the enduring power and truths of the Jewish tradition come alive for people of all backgrounds, ages, and stages.

Rabbi Knopf holds degrees from Columbia University (History, Cum Laude), the Jewish Theological Seminary (Talmud and Rabbinics, Magna Cum Laude), and the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (Master of Arts in Rabbinic Studies, Rabbinic Ordination), where he received the Eliezer Slomovic Award in Talmud.

On the lighter side, he’s a pop culture buff, political junkie, and enjoys movies, traveling and pizza.

You can read additional details about Rabbi Knopf’s professional experience in his CV by clicking here and at https://www.bethelrichmond.org/clergy.

The schedule of weekend activities will be sent out shortly and congregants will be asked to register for the activities they plan to attend. Livestream and Zoom will be available for certain activities so that congregants who are out of town can see Rabbi Knopf “in action.”

A follow-up survey will be sent out immediately after the weekend to obtain congregants’ feedback.
