Making headlines for our remarkable growth

The last decade drew attention to our fastest-in-the-nation 18% growth rate, but, as Ari Bruening points out in our most recent blog post, our state has often grown much, much faster over the last 176 years.

Such rapid growth might have been challenging to handle at the time, but it laid the foundation for Utah's present-day allure.

Change is never without its challenges, but Utah's enduring appeal today is a testament to the resilience of our communities and the vision of our leaders.

The ability to adapt and thrive across time has shaped Utah into a place that people are still drawn to—whether it's to call it home, raise their families, or establish thriving businesses. But in order to keep it thriving, Utahns must speak up on how the future should be molded.

One month left to participate in Guiding Our Growth!

20,000 Utahns have participated so far in speaking up about growth issues impacting our state. Will you be the next to participant?

Should new housing be placed on the edge of existing communities or within them? Should community leaders impose restrictions to discourage overwatering? Should low-water-use landscaping be required in all new residential and commercial areas? Does it make sense to build new neighborhoods with large yards if that means parks and trails are farther away or farmland is lost to accommodate those large lots?

So many great ideas, but we need to narrow it down to what will continue to make Utah a beautiful and prosperous home for not only the current generations but also the ones to come.

Brain-building moments for ages zero to five

Summer can be a wonderful time to connect as a family! Sometimes, too much time together can bring on challenging moments. Too much tech time? Grocery shopping with kids burnout? You can scale these Vroom Tips™ up or down, depending on your child’s age(s), to help make these times more enjoyable.

Try this Vroom Tip called Shop and Talk Math

Shopping is a great time to build on your child’s sense of numbers. Look for chances to use and talk about numbers around the store. You can count the apples in your cart, think about bigger and smaller, and point out numbers you see. Ask questions to help your child use “Math Talk” when you shop.

Brain-building Science...

When you talk about numbers, you build on your child's early math sense. Ideas like size and shape will help them learn math, and will also help them make connections. "Math Talk" can also help your child stay busy at the store and help you manage the “gimmes.”

Vroom® Resources

Partner Highlight:

We’ve partnered with The Sammy Center, a social-emotional preschool in Millcreek. They have an amazing and caring staff, individually and collectively, and it has been a true pleasure to work together! We have done staff training (reinforcing the great work they already do with children by engaging in nurturing teacher/child interactions), and parent trainings (highlighting ways to easily implement brain-building at home, in the car, at the doctor, etc.). We are customizing some Vroom signage around their center to be an easy reminder that moments like snack time, cleaning up, or imaginative playtime are critical brain-building opportunities!

For information on ways to partner with us, or for free Vroom materials, please contact Travis Allred tallred@envisionutah.org and Laurel Miller-Jones laurelmj@envisionutah.org with the Early Learning Project.
