Message from Hazel Bowman, RScP
CSLP Practitioner Core Chair

Did you know the Welsh call February "y mis bach" which means "little month"? Until Julius Caesar re-made the Roman calendar, February had as few as 23 days. Well, February may be “little” but it’s mighty with all things wonderful happening at our Center.

Let’s start with our fabulous guest speakers for this month! On February 6 Scott Thompson RScP returns with his message on the “Inner Life - Can I see the God in Me?”, then on February 13 we are blessed to host Rev. Sophia Falke as she talks about “And the Greatest of These is Love.” On February 20 our beloved Swami Sankaranada will speak on “Pilgrimage to the Heart, the Journey Home”, and ending the month on February 27 our very own Interim Minister Rev. Cath DePalma will be presenting her first message to the Center.

Following Rev. Cath’s message on February 27, you are lovingly invited to come join us after service for a “meet-and-greet” forum in the Sanctuary where you will have the opportunity to welcome her, understand her responsibilities as she shares her gifts and talents, and ask questions to learn more about this fabulous minister!

On Monday February 28 from 6:00pm – 7:15pm, and on the fourth Monday of every month at the same time, come join Swami Sankaranada’s “Satsang.” Satsang means “Gathering in Truth.” The goal is to uplift our vibrations, to imbibe in and radiate Peace and Love. The program consists of 20 minutes of Guided Silent Meditation, 20 minutes of Kirtan – Singing/Chanting the Holy Names in Sanskrit, 20 minutes of discussion – Bhagavad Gita, Additional Questions and Closing. Love Offerings Accepted in Deep Gratitude.

Starting on Saturday February 19 from 8:30am – 11:30am, I and Sharon Tice RScP will teach the 10-week fun and creative accredited class Practical Mysticism to evoke the inner mystic that indwells you. Take advantage of the Early Bird Special and save by signing up now! Sign-up sheet is located in Sibley Hall. Pre-requisite: Foundations.

To one and all I wish you a Happy Chinese New Year of the Tiger! (Also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival which is celebrated at the second new moon following the Winter Solstice.) The Year of the Tiger means people are gaining vitality and strength, are more determined to achieve their goals, and evoke self-confidence and enthusiasm as well as competence and courage in the face of challenges. All I can add is “And so it is.”

As we celebrate the love around the world on Valentine’s Day, “There is but one ultimate impulsion in the universe. This impulsion is love. It is the pure essence of Divine Givingness.”
Ernest Holmes, “How to Use the Science of Mind”

Love and more love,
Hazel
Hello to all. We find ourselves at the beginning of a new year, full of opportunities, a chance to grow and create. A chance to change, to have a new Minister, new classes, new ideas, new circles, and growth. A chance to attract new congregants and to invite back members we have not seen in a while. A chance to share your thoughts and ideas to improve our Center. This year’s Board will be listening. We want to hear from everyone how to improve. I have felt a new energy level in our Center, and I hope you have too.

Again, this year we are dealing with COVID. It is the primary concern of this Board to keep people safe. It is my opinion that Ernest Holmes and Science Of Mind, in many books and areas, teaches about responsibility and respectability. That each one of us needs to act responsibly in taking care of ourselves, our loved ones, and those near us. That we need to be respectful of others, their thoughts and lifestyle. We are currently suppling N95 masks for you to use and take home for your ongoing safety.

On February 27 our new Interim Minister Rev. Cath DePalma will be presenting her first message to the Center. Following Rev. Cath’s message on February 27, you are invited to join us after service for a “meet-and-greet” forum in the Sanctuary where you will have the opportunity to welcome her, understand her responsibilities as she shares her gifts and talents, and ask questions to learn more about this interim minister. Rev. DePalma will help us to work through any feelings we may have regarding our transition and change. It will also give us an opportunity to express our feelings and thoughts regarding the past, present and future of our Center.

Included in the senior minister selection process we will be creating a committee to evaluate the candidates. Hopefully this committee will be made up of long-standing members of Centers For Spiritual Living, maybe a couple from the Board, the Practitioners and congregation. But this will come later and done with our interim minister.

Blessings to all,
Tom Kimmerle
New Committee Being Formed!
The Board of Trustees is looking ahead in creating a committee to engage both the Quad Cities and online communities in open dialogue, by moving forward in sharing our Centers mission and vision as a path to increase membership and awareness to a broader audience. By expanding the Centers Love and Joy outside of our walls we are including others as we grow. Anyone interested in this exciting endeavor please reach out to a Board Member.

THE HEART CONNECTION
The Heart Connection is, again, up and running at CSL-Prescott. Members are Grace McManus, Sharon Tice, Jeri Arenson, Sudra Tolbert, Margaret Norton, DyAnn Brooks, Gena Bonacci, and Patricia Weiberg.

The team has been working with Janet in the office and Chris Pearce of the Board to update our membership list. Each Heart Connection member has a team of folks with whom they will keep in touch, calling periodically and sending cards for special occasions. They will also be getting together for lunch periodically to enjoy time with their Heart Connection friends, discuss any needed updates, and write cards for their teams.

If anyone is interested in joining our Heart Connection or have any questions, please contact Grace McManus or Sharon Tice. Talk to them at the Center; also their contact information is on the Practitioner Board. The Heart Connection offers the opportunity to get to know more CSL-Prescott members and to enjoy time together. We look forward to reaching out to our members and to including anyone who would like to join us.

SPIRITUAL MIND TREATMENT
What’s Love Got to Do with It?

Reflecting upon CSL’s February theme of “The Inner Life”, I keep coming to the same conclusion. Love has everything to do with it. While the glitz and glam of the Valentine’s Day marketing might be either appealing or appalling depending upon our personal practices and desires, we are boldly reminded of love.
A deeper look at love reminds us that its way more than “a second hand emotion” as Tina Turner’s tune implies AND it starts from within. We often hear in this philosophy that “it’s an inside job”. Sitting with those words, I’m ever more aware just how true that is. Our very existence is because of love, that love of the Creator expressing itself as us. When we live as that, we can be nothing but pure love. Now, the secret is living with and as that idea.
Why is it that we don’t always live as the love we are? While I’m wondering why I pose that question, I realize it is important to ponder. Speaking strictly for myself, I know that when I’m comparing, judging, feeling lack and/or unworthiness, I’m not living as love. So I ask, what is mine to do? I do, after all, have responsibility as this living, breathing flesh container of Spirit.
To live as love is an ongoing spiritual practice. When I realize I’m comparing, I have a favorite quote by Lauren Dratch that reads, “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” Being judgmental is a mirroring opportunity for me to reflect upon why I’m feeling that way. Practicing gratitude is the best way to recognize my abundance and worthiness.
And, with clear eyes I see the love that I am and the love all around me. One way to be part of and experience this love is to witness it through all the caring and volunteering at our Center. From the friendly greetings and the smiles of our fellow beings, we feel that warmth, that loving energy. We hear it in the voices of concerns, questions and ideas. We see folks lovingly give their time and talents to support our Sunday services and ongoing activities and meetings. Many give from their abundance to maintain a building, grounds, technology, utilities and staff. We see love in action from our youth when they share and demonstrate their insights and understanding. And we know God is Love and I am Love.

Respectfully and lovingly submitted by
Diane Gesell, RScP

Lots of love,
Erin & Diane
Love and Light is a group of people who enjoy celebrating the goodness that exists in and around us. We have used two books for our discussions over the last two years. One is FROM AGING TO SAGEING by Miller and Schachter-Shalomi and the other is COMFORTABLE WITH UNCERTAINTY by Pema Chodron. Our small group has been together for about two years finding inspiration and support for what is going on in our lives.

WHEN: First Monday of the Month
TIME: 1:30 pm
WHERE: CSLP in Sibley Hall
Originally, we were a Circle formed to bring together those individuals who were volunteering for candle lighting and greeting. However, you don't have to be a volunteer in those areas to join our group. Contact Kay Krizek at (818)486-1888 or just show up! You will be heartily welcomed!

We ALWAYS need volunteers to greet people at the door and to light candles during the service. Feel free to sign up on the table near the front door!

Kay Krizek
Please reach out for prayer, conversation and emotional support during this challenging time. We can only be there for you if you reach out and let us know what you need. Remember, we love you so much, and it's our pleasure to be there for you.
