Conduct Corner: Blue Light Emergency Phones

Do you know why we have the blue light emergency phones on campus?

The Blue Light emergency phones were installed in 1990 after women on campus advocated for the need for greater security when walking at night. They are still an important part of Queen’s security system today.

All calls from Emergency Phones receive the highest priority response. All nearby Security staff are immediately dispatched to the scene and will search the surrounding area if no one is sighted when they arrive.

These phones are for emergencies only. When they are misused for pranks, it takes important resources away from real emergencies.

Boost your Flex $ Balance

If you are running low on Flex $ this semester you can top up your account anytime through the Student Residence & Dining Portal.

You can use your Flex $ and TAMs at all Hospitality Services food locations, including national brands like Tim Horton’s, Starbucks, and Pita Pit. Shake up your dining this week and try a new location.

  • Use a TAM at Zapies in the Queen’s Centre to combine your love of pizza with naan bread!
  • Head to Wally’s in Botterell Hall and try a delicious lunch bowl. This location accepts meal swipes just like in the dining halls.
  • Hit up Flip!t for a specialty burger or build-your-own salad with grilled protein, and make it a combo using your TAMs.

Sustainable Tip of the Week

Use a reusable travel mug to avoid the $0.35 single-use cost recovery cup fee on hot beverages and fountain drinks in retail locations.

Remembrance Day Service

Monday, November 11

10:50 – 11:30 am

Grant Hall

Doors open at 10:30 am, service to begin at 10:50 am, classes are cancelled on November 11 between 10:30 and 11:30 am

Queen’s has been holding a Remembrance Day ceremony in Grant Hall for many years to honour all from Queen’s who have served and those who are currently serving. The First and Second World Wars profoundly impacted Queen's, affecting both community and campus life. During WWI, many students, staff, faculty, and alumni enlisted, leading to a significant drop in enrolment. Queen's formed military units, such as Fifth Field Company Engineers and a total of 187 from Queen's lost their lives. In WWII, enlistment was lower, but 164 students and alumni died.
