Helping students thrive in challenging times
These past few years have been tough for students and staff. The pandemic, learning disruption, and world turmoil has weighed heavily.
LPS has been fortunate to keep students in schools, but the challenges of added learning distractions have led to some gaps, both academically and socially.
The LPS Wellness team has worked to provide support to close those gaps. Learn about their efforts in their November partner highlight.

Preventing and Managing Diabetes
By 2050, 48 million people in the US are projected to be diagnosed with diabetes. About 1.4 million people in the US are diagnosed every year, nearly 11,000 per year in Nebraska.
Between 90% - 95% are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, which is largely preventable with good nutrition, avoiding sugary drinks, exercise, and not smoking. With those same lifestyle choices, people with Type 2 can also improve and extend their lives.
Read about community programs to help prevent Type 2 diabetes and clinical efforts to help manage it in the latest Health and the City column in the Lincoln Journal Star. Cowritten with LNKTV Health.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.
We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease. Systemic racism is also a threat to community health. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is fighting for greater equality and justice for all.
