Session Meeting, Tuesday, January 9


Business:


  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Melody Dickson for use of the Sanctuary and fellowship area to host an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on January 10, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Session approved the renewal of a contract with Halena Nguyen for bookkeeping services through 2024.
  • Session approved the renewal of a contract with Roxanne Cockerham-Brent for cleaning services through 2024.
  • Session elected Louise Dye as Clerk of Session for 2024.
  • Session elected Dave Adams as Treasurer for 2024.
  • Session elected John Dye and Bill Pfeifer as Session Members to the 2024 Nominating Committee.
  • Session approved the continued service of Elder John Dye as Elder Commissioner for Highland Presbyterian at the February 6, 2024, Presbytery Meeting.
  • Session approved the 2024 Timeline for Business of the Church including the Communion Schedule.
  • Session approved designated Session Responsibilities for 2024.
  • Session approved allocating $35.00 from account 570170 Curriculum-Adult for a donation to the Lutheran Hour Ministries for 2024 Lenten Devotional resources.

Clerk of Session

Correspondence:

  • A renewal reminder for Highland’s Domestic Corporation filing was received from the Secretary of State. The filing was renewed online.

Membership

  • The Annual Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, February 18, following worship. The Annual Report for Highland will be presented. A soup lunch is planned to go along with the meeting.





Committee Reports (cont.)


Congregational Care and Christian Education Committee

  • Lagniappe Ladies did not meet for lunch in December. They met on January 9, 2024, 11:30 a.m., at the Little Village. For the remainder of the year, they will meet for lunch on the second Wednesday of each month.
  • A Christmas Reception for the Congregation was hosted on December 10, 2023.
  • The Education Committee chose a Lenten Devotional booklet titled Man of Sorrows, People of Joy as a resource for the Congregation. It is a 2023 publication from the Lutheran Hour Ministries and will be available for pickup beginning Sunday, February 11, 2024.


Evangelism Committee

  • The average attendance for December was 16. Five visitors were welcomed during the month.


Finance Committee

  • For the month of December, income of $13,058.40 exceeded expenses of $5,895.99 by $7,162.41. 
  • Year-end income of $91,393.02 exceeded expenses of $85,600.14 by $5,792.88.


Missions Committee

  • The Christmas Joy Offering was received on December 17, 2023.


Personnel Committee

  • Rev. Jeff Day’s last day of service will be Sunday, January 14, 2024.
  • Rev. Betsy Irvine will begin as Pastoral Supply on Sunday, January 21, 2024.


Property Committee

  • Water leakage from a large hole on the Sanctuary portico roof was detected and repaired.


Worship

  • The Apple MacBook used in the projection of overhead slides became non-functioning. A replacement was found by Carl’s Computers and will be operational soon.
  • Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2023. Preparations are well under-way.
  • Chairs in the Sanctuary will be rearranged allowing for 2 aisles and 3 sections (including a center section).
