Cocoon Gallery's founder, Mitchell Siegel, founded Cocoon after a decades-long career in the textile business in New York. As a textile executive, he took extended buying trips to remote villages in Southeast Asia, the Philippines and Brazil. During his travels, he was impressed by the wealth of treasures in the natural world and how they were repurposed by locals. As a result, the idea for Cocoon was born, with a name inspired by the idea of being surrounded by warmth.
He explains, "We use what nature gives and make a functional piece of art. It may be exotic wood, a palm leaf, a coconut."
Cocoon Gallery is privileged to own a coveted license to import exotic wood from Southeast Asia. This means that raw materials are bought from licensed exporters, a hallmark of the quality of Cocoon's products. The Cocoon team hand-selects everything during travels to the region and is offered first rights to the best.
The Cocoon team is planning a summer trip to Southeast Asia. Another destination on the calendar is Brazil, to import quartz crystals, agates, and other minerals to polish and bring to life the inner beauty within.
