Healing Hearts Family Bereavement Camp Brings Families Together

In June, CancerCare held its annual Healing Hearts Family Bereavement Camp. Located at Memorytown USA, in Mount Pocono, PA, families who have recently lost a loved one to cancer can find compassion, encouragement and friendship among others who are coping with the loss of a loved one.

This year’s camp theme was “hearts,” with families participating in activities including creating heart collages and remembrance mandalas to share memories of their loved ones. Adults had the opportunity to gather for three different support groups while the children met in groups by their ages. For those who attend CancerCare's Healing Hearts Camp, it is about the connections made and the importance of having room to feel and share through similar experiences.
CancerCare's Pet Assistance & Wellness (PAW) Program Q&A With Dr. Lidia Schapira

CancerCare’s Pet Assistance & Wellness (PAW) Program addresses the distinct needs of people with cancer who share their home with a cat or dog. Recently, we sat down with Dr. Lidia Schapira, a professor of medicine (medical oncologist) at Stanford University School of Medicine to answer questions regarding the challenges of keeping a cat or dog at home.

As part of the PAW Program's panel of experts, Dr. Schapira has a guiding hand in ensuring our programs are as informative and useful as possible for those impacted by cancer who own pets. While they keep us comforted with love, it is important to ensure everyone is as safe as possible. For more updates on our PAW Program, follow us on our Instagram page here.

CancerCare CEO Trish Goldsmith on Financial Toxicity and Roadblocks to Specialty Care

Recently, Drug Topics, a leading periodical for pharmacists, featured CancerCare's CEO Trish Goldsmith with an eye toward our work to bring down roadblocks to specialty care. The article discusses financial toxicity, what Trish describes as "administrative sludge" and other barriers people with cancer face in receiving the support they need. To address these issues, CancerCare has developed an Employee Protection Toolkit to educate employers, providing tools and actionable steps to help maximize the health care plans they provide to their employees.

CancerCare’s Young Professionals Committee’s Fundraising Event Supports Young Adults Impacted by Cancer

June 16 marked CancerCare’s Young Professionals Committee’s (YPC) 5th annual fundraising event. The event “Cocktails for a Cause,” which took place at the Michael Kors Building’s Rooftop Garden in Manhattan, brought together nearly 100 young professionals and CancerCare supporters.

Attendees had the opportunity to reconnect and meet new people after a pandemic pause, enjoy refreshing cocktails, nibble on tasty hors d’oeuvres and bid on various raffle prizes, including tickets to see The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show’s Summer Concert Series, Pilates classes and more. Over $7,500 was raised towards supporting young adults impacted by cancer, exceeding the goal for the event. Thank you to everyone who attended!
