Today we celebrate the turning of the season. Last night was "All Hallow’s Eve" and “Samhain", the ancient Gaelic festival marking the end of harvest season and the beginning of winter, or the darker half of the year. We're half-way between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. (… and only 55 days until Christmas!) | |
Ellis Paul at the Flying Goose.
Ellis Paul doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes, loves, losses of those he observes, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him, everyone from Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration, Woody Guthrie, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless.

Improv for Caregivers at The Fleming Center at the New London Barn Playhouse
Caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia can be overwhelming, lonely, and extremely difficult. The New London Barn Playhouse and Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice are supported in part by a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts to offer FREE monthly events that connect caregivers going through similar situations and help them navigate different circumstances. The sessions combine insights from health care professionals with improvised scenarios where actors navigate common caregiving situations onstage. The series aims to help caregivers develop new communication skills, strategies to cope with stress, flexibility in relationships, and an understanding of loved ones’ changing perspectives. Attendees are welcome to participate in discussions and scenarios, or they may remain an observer.
