This Year's Economic Forecast Breakfast Features the "Bowtie Economist"
Join the Construction Association of Michigan, the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan, and the Apartment Association of Michigan on June 15th at the Suburban Collection Showplace, as we assess the national and regional perspectives on our economy and how they are affecting our industry. CAM members and their guests are invited to join CAM for a Detroit Tigers Tailgate and evening game vs. the Padres. Join us in the tent in the alley adjacent to Bobcat Bonnie's in Corktown for food, drinks, and networking.

Registration fee is just $65 per person and includes choice of food from a special menu, beverages, a ticket to the game, and shuttle service to/from Comerica Park.

Announcing the 2021 Safety Achievement Award Winners
On April 29th, the 2021 CAM Safety Achievement awards were presented to CAM members, categorized by hours worked in 2021, and ranked gold, silver, or bronze, based on maintaining an Experience Modification Rate below 1.0 and reporting recordable injury and illness rates below industry averages.

Award recipients represented ~7,328 employees and clocked over 14,962,541 hours worked, with an average Experience Modification Rate of .70. We were pleased to recognize 15 companies for top honors. An additional 23 companies received honorable mentions for their outstanding dedication to promoting safety and health throughout all levels of their respective companies. The latest episode of CAM's Michigan’s Building Michigan podcast welcomes CAMComp, CAM’s self-insured workers’ compensation program, represented by Janice Shaver, Administrator, and Juan Ramirez, Marketing Representative. May 24th
This course teaches the principles of basic life support for adults. The course details hands-only CPR, first aid, choking in adults, signs, and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, and treatment for shock. It explains how AEDs work, and why they are a critical part of emergency cardiac care. Certification is valid for a period of two years.
June 16th – VIRTUAL
Bonds are effective tools for ensuring that tender bids and construction contracts are honored. Owners, contractors, and suppliers gain the information and resources necessary to understand construction bonds and how best to position themselves to achieve surety credit.
June 21st-22nd
Learn about the hazards present in most construction projects and be able to identify, and then avoid, reduce, or eliminate job hazards, and learn about required record-keeping procedures. Upon completion of the course, students receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-Hour course completion card.

CAMSafety Call for Presenters
On the second Monday of every month, the CAMSafety Committee meets virtually to discuss current trends, industry events, and review the strategic goals of the program. In addition, we invite a featured speaker to give a presentation to the group. Topics have included drones, using fleet technology to reduce accidents and liabilities, strategies for engaging teams remotely, and more.

Gov. Whitmer Proclaims May as Professional Trades Month
On May 6th, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity to officially name May as Professional Trades Month "to honor the hard-working men and women in these fields and to encourage more Michiganders to explore educational and career opportunities in these high-demand, high-skilled and high-wage careers." Professional Trades Month spotlights high-demand, high-wage career opportunities for Michiganders, and there are numerous resources to help prepare Michigan’s future workforce. Engineering and Technology Job Fair Coming to Novi on May 24th
The Engineers Get Hired job fair, organized by The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD), draws hundreds of engineers and technology professionals eager to find their next opportunity. Businesses will meet face-to-face with candidates seeking full- and part-time positions, as well as internships and co-op opportunities. Job seekers have an opportunity to meet with representatives from some of Michigan’s leading companies. Free for ESD members; others get in for $20. Trench Safety Stand-Down Takes Place June 20th-24th
The 2022 Trench Safety Stand Down will occur the week of June 20th-24th. OSHA has established trenching and excavation hazards as the Agency’s Priority Goal. OSHA established a National Emphasis Program (NEP) for Excavating and Trenching inspections, and MIOSHA has been conducting inspections related to this NEP.

MIOSHA welcomes the opportunity to talk with employers and employees about the hazards of trenching and excavation work in a non-enforcement capacity. If you are interested in having a MIOSHA representative(s) speak briefly at a jobsite during the week of June 20th-24th, please EMAIL > your request to CAMSafety.
Product Advisory – Select 3M DBI-Sala Harnesses
3M Fall Protection has issued a product advisory related to specific Protecta harnesses. specific. During internal testing, it was discovered that some models of the 3M™ DBI-SALA® Delta™ and 3M™ Protecta® Harnesses did not consistently meet the required performance of ANSI Z359.11-14 clause 4.3.4 headfirst dorsal dynamic drop at the required 3600 lbs.
