Dear Faculty and Staff,

May marks one of the most exciting times on campus, and I hope you will join me in celebrating our graduates later this month.

Graduation is the pinnacle of the college experience and the culmination of our students’ academic journey. Nothing makes me prouder to be part of the ESF community than watching our students walk across the Commencement stage to become graduates and alumni.

On Saturday, May 13, we look forward to returning to the St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater at Lakeview. We had such a great ceremony there in 2021 and, given how integral ESF was in the cleanup of Onondaga Lake, I truly do not think there is a more appropriate place for us to send off our graduates.

Also, we are thrilled to welcome Anne Therese Gennari as our Commencement speaker. Anne Therese is a TEDx speaker, author of The Climate Optimist Handbook, educator, and sustainable influencer who is passionate about changing the narrative on climate change so we can act from courage and excitement.

After the ceremony and before you head out, we invite you to stay for snacks and drinks from food trucks at the Amp.

On Sunday, May 14, we continue our tradition of a joint Commencement ceremony with our partner and neighbor Syracuse University. We’ll start the day with breakfast for graduates and their families at Gateway and a photo on the Quad before our procession to the Dome.

I encourage you to attend the ceremonies and receptions celebrating our graduates’ hard work and success. You can visit our webpage for details and watch for an email from Dean Lombard.

I look forward to celebrating the Class of ’23 with all of you!

Sincerely,

Joanie Mahoney

President
