Main Street Safety Improvement Project

Second Online Community Meeting &

Upcoming Open Houses

Thank you to everyone who stopped by an open house, attended an online meeting, or submitted feedback through our comment form and comment map.

With your initial feedback, we are designing what Main Street will look like with separated bike lanes. In Phase 2 of the project, we will present design options and ask for your thoughts.

There are many ways to learn about the options and give feedback. We will post meeting materials and ways to give feedback online in June. To share your thoughts, you can attend a meeting or open house or give feedback online.

Coming Up

Monday, May 15: Comment Map Closes

We will close the online comment map on Monday, May 15. You can use the comment map to give feedback on the current layout of the street: what safety concerns you have, what elements of the street you like, and where it's important to keep parking and loading. Click here to go to the comment map.

Wednesday, May 31: Community Meeting #2

6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Zoom

At the second community meeting, we will present layout options for adding separated bike lanes to Main Street. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions and give comments.

Can't make it? This meeting is informational, and no decisions will be made at the meeting. Materials, including the slides and a video recording, will be posted to the project webpage after the meeting. You can provide feedback in multiple ways, including through an online comment form. Check out the webpage for the latest ways to give feedback.

About the Project

The Main Street Safety Improvement Project will add separated bike lanes on Main Street between Massachusetts Avenue/Lafayette Square and Portland Street.

As part of this project, we will:

  • Install separated bike lanes in both directions, adding to the City's network of separated bike lanes.
  • Improve existing crosswalks.
  • Remove a significant number of parking spaces in the project area and consider changes to parking regulations in the spots that remain.
  • Address safety at key intersections.
