Andell West Poll Recap
On October 14, the Town of Kiawah Island distributed an e-blast sharing an open poll to gauge the community’s attitude towards Riverstone Properties’ rezoning request, which is planned to be submitted to the Charleston County Council for its proposed Andell West development. Nine hundred and twenty-two (922) individuals responded to this poll, and we thank you for your valuable input. Approximately 79.5% of participants in the public survey were not in favor of the project as currently proposed.

The sentiments below reflect some of the feedback the Town received:

  • Many respondents requested to learn more about the types of tenants that would be allowed in the proposed development.
  • A number of respondents are in favor of a larger grocery store but are concerned with the overall exterior appearance of the store.
  •  Some respondents are opposed to the addition of a gas station.
  • Several participants expressed concern about overdevelopment on the island and are concerned that this development may increase traffic and congestion.
  • Some respondents requested an agreement between Riverstone Properties and Eden for the vehicular connection between Freshfields Village and the proposed development.

Update as of Friday, November 4:

Riverstone Properties is working with the Cassique HOA to address and respond to the four issues below for the planned development before a public hearing on Thursday, November 10. Both the Kiawah Island Community Association and Preserve Kiawah are aware that Cassique's HOA is working with Riverstone Properties to find a better plan. Discussions are ongoing and will last into the next week.

  • Vehicular and pedestrian connection to Freshfields
  • Limitations on the uses allowed
  • Proper scale and screening of the gas station
  • Look and feel similar to Freshfields

In addition, the Town plans to share the community’s feedback from the survey with the Charleston County Council ahead of the public hearing. If you would like to share additional input regarding this proposed development, please email contact@kiawahisland.org by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 with your comments, along with your name and address

We appreciate your participation.

  • Mixed materials or plastic bags will not be collected by the town. Home composting of leaves and grass clippings is encouraged.

Sam Bush
Saturday, November 12, 2022
West Beach Conf. Center | 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $15 (tickets required)

There was only one prize-winning teenager carrying stones big enough to say thanks, but no thanks to Roy Acuff. Only one son of Kentucky finding a light of inspiration from Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys and catching a fire from Bob Marley and The Wailers. Only one progressive hippie allying with like-minded conspirators, rolling out the New Grass revolution, and then leaving the genre’s torch-bearing band behind as it reached its commercial peak. There is only one consensus pick of peers and predecessors, of the traditionalists, the rebels, and the next gen devotees. Music’s ultimate inside outsider. Or is it outside insider? There is only one Sam Bush.
