Emerging Leaders

We would like to extend a personal invitation to our Emerging Leaders program for the 2022-2023 school year. Emerging Leaders is an opportunity for employees who are interested in learning more and engaging in conversations about school leadership through administration, curriculum/learning specialist support or other leadership positions. Emerging Leaders is different from the RepMO Leaders cohort, as Emerging Leaders is not for graduate-level credit. Emerging Leaders is designed to engage future leaders and grow leadership capacity for future opportunities.

Emerging Leaders will meet four times throughout the year in November, December, February and April. The first meeting will now be held on Tuesday, November 1 from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the Board of Education Training Room at Central Office.

If you are interested in participating in the Emerging Leaders program and would like additional information shared please fill out this interest form. Please contact Dr. Tyler Overstreet if you have further questions.

Telehealth Appointments for Staff

The Republic School District is excited to continue our partnership with Jordan Valley Community Health Center to offer school-based health clinic visits to all staff.

Our Jordan Valley Community Health Worker, Leslie Blanco, is available to coordinate a virtual visit with a Jordan Valley doctor or nurse practitioner for any employee that is not well and needs to be assessed for the following possible illnesses: strep throat, ear infection, sinus infection, rash, pink eye, stomach flu, bug bites, lice and congestion. The employee will be able to return to work after the medical provider evaluation OR they will be given a diagnosis and guidance on leaving work. If necessary, the practitioner will call in a prescription to the patient's pharmacy to be paid for and picked up by the employee.

The employee is responsible for the copay and/or costs not covered by insurance.

Employees can request an appointment by emailing [email protected]. You will find the required form to be completed once annually prior to your appointment HERE.

We are thankful for this opportunity to partner with Jordan Valley Community Health Center!

Reminders from Technology

IT security is extremely important for school systems like ours. Many threats to school data start with phishing attacks on staff. We want you to be prepared!

First of all, what is "phishing?" Phishing is an attempt to persuade an employee to reveal information or facilitate a security breach through persuasion. This typically involves a deceptive email, which is designed to trick an employee into giving the attacker access to secure systems or revealing personal information. Phishing emails are often identifiable by common characteristics. One major characteristic of such emails is that they are unsolicited. The sender may be asking you for something that you did not communicate with them about previously, such as payment for a service that you did not purchase.

Here are some other common characteristics of phishing emails that should set off red flags when you see them:

  1. The sender is unknown to you. They may even use a known organization name, such as a familiar business or school district, but not your normal point of contact there.
  2. Emails that appear to be from financial institutions, government agencies, schools, or colleges, that you were not expecting.
  3. Requests for payment from outside vendors. In particular, be wary of vendors you are sure you did not do business with. Invoices from unknown companies are good examples of this, but they can also be fake versions of invoices from companies you know.
  4. Messages asking you to open attachments or click on links.
  5. Emails claiming to be security related, saying they’ve noticed some suspicious activity or log-in attempts by you or with your accounts.

As always, if you are not sure about a message you receive, email [email protected]. That team will be more than happy to assist you and can safely handle the message. They can verify the sender and safely handle any attachments to confirm that they are safe. They can also can block senders that are malicious, and alert other staff to the threat.

Please contact John Howard, Director of Technology, if you have any questions about phishing attacks. We thank you for staying vigilant!
