Join us in thanking Redwood volunteers who assist women and children to live free from abuse, homelessness, and poverty!

It’s National Volunteer Week and we invite you to meet just one of 54 amazing volunteers who contribute their time and talents to The Redwood!

"Hello, my name is Shivangi! I'm 24 years old and I just moved to Toronto from Vancouver last year! I wanted to explore opportunities in Toronto because I eventually want to become a psychotherapist or a family therapist.

Being an iDetermine volunteer provides an opportunity for me to advocate for people living with abuse and assist those who seek support.

iDetermine.ca stood out for me because I don't see a lot of specific psychoeducation content about abuse on other crisis line websites. I appreciate the maps and interactive quizzes on iDetermine that help users understand the different forms of abuse. The platform is very educational even for me!

Volunteering at The Redwood is helping me connect with my own commitment to helping others beyond my career goals."

The Redwood could not do the work we do without volunteers like Shivangi! We are so grateful to our community of volunteers who help The Redwood provide services to women and children fleeing abuse.

Connect with Hannah, The Redwood’s new Volunteer and Fundraising Coordinator – and become a volunteer yourself!

After a three-year pause, we are excited to announce that we are ready to begin welcoming “in-person” volunteers back into the shelter!

And we are pleased to introduce you to Hannah Zimbel, our new Volunteer and Fundraising Coordinator. Hannah is no stranger to The Redwood, having been a volunteer herself!

If you would like to learn more about volunteering at The Redwood, in either an in-person or online role, please connect with Hannah at hlzimbel@theredwood.com. She will be happy to hear from you!

Meet Evan, our longest-serving volunteer and facilitator of The Redwood’s Toronto History Museums' presentation - Transforming Grief: Loss and Togetherness in COVID-19!

Evan Tapper is The Redwood's longest-serving volunteer and the Director of Continuing Studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Evan facilitated The Redwood’s participation in the Toronto History Museums' exhibit, Transforming Grief: Loss and Togetherness in COVID-19.

The Redwood is honoured to be one of eight community groups invited to be featured in the exhibit, exploring the experiences of marginalized communities during the pandemic.

"For the past 6 months I've had the incredible privilege to work with the staff and residents at The Redwood on a series of artworks called Art, Outreach, and Tools for Change for the exhibition.

I started volunteering at The Redwood back in 2004. I've known for so long how amazing The Redwood is - it means so much to be able to share that in this exhibition. Thank you to The Redwood for trusting me to work with you on this."

The exhibit is now open at Fort York Visitor Centre until January 7, 2024!
