Like the last few elections, ACPE will use SimplyVoting to conduct a ranked-choice ballot. We welcome your feedback and questions regarding our election process. Please email me at cecelia.walker@bhsala.com.

Past Due Notices Sent in Error on Friday
|
ACPE has been working with our database consultants to build a new automated email invoice reminder system. While testing the new system on Friday, October 21st, some members may have received a false notice about an expired membership. If you received an email with the Subject: “Sandbox: Important Information About Your ACPE Membership,” please ignore it.
ACPE will begin emailing 2023 membership renewals the first week of December. We apologize for the confusion. If you have further questions about your account, please email accounting@acpe.edu.

After almost 20 years, ACPE’s Director of Communications and Technology John Roch announced that he accepted a position at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Division of HIV Prevention in the Office of Policy, Planning, Partnerships, and Communications.
John said, “When I began my first day of work on March 8, 2004, I couldn’t imagine that ACPE would be anything more than a job. I certainly never thought I would work for the association for almost two decades! I never took a unit of CPE, but ACPE transformed me."

The Accreditation Commission is in search of Certified Educators willing to serve as NSTCs for Six-year Reviews starting in 2023. The NSTC model has served ACPE well and is a key element in the relational model of accreditation that fosters mutual accountability. The NSTC leads a team, with at least one other CE and a practitioner in the field of spiritual care, to provide consultation for the variety of the CPE programs in ACPE. The team also guides programs to both the common and unique indicators for how a program demonstrates compliance with ACPE Standards.

Recently, I noticed after a couple of instances how many people shared how busy they were with their day. Almost every person I met was preoccupied – or over-occupied – with comings and goings, things seen and unseen, tasks and feelings, work and worries. Over the summer, I enjoyed the newsletter from the folks at “On Being” which they called the pause, because they took time to rest and refresh, to not keep relentlessly producing content. The power of a pause, a second look, an extra moment – all can be so powerful. Mark Nepo captures this in his poem, The Second Flower:
She was stopped by the light on a peony
on the north side of the city. A few days
later, she saw another peony in her friend’s
yard. But she thought, I’ve seen this flower
before. And so, she didn’t pay attention.
But it was the second flower
that held a secret for her.
Pretty soon, she thought life was
repeating, when all that was repeating
was her want for a flower she’d never seen.

Perhaps the pause will allow us to capture a glimpse of the incredible wonders of nature. Check out these photos from this year’s wildlife photography competition:

Thin Places
by Janea Thompson Christensen
The Celtic saints often referred to somewhere as a 'thin place'. This referred to when the spiritual atmosphere of a location made it easy to connect with God, almost as though there is no barrier between heaven and earth. I have often reflected on this and have determined that my “thin places” are in the wild spaces of nature, where craggy mountains are smothered with tall evergreens and winding waters tumble over stacks of smooth rocks. My thin place is also in the Holy Temple, a place of stillness where I feel God’s love, and where my thoughts of loved ones who’ve passed are so intensely drawn towards heaven I wonder if perhaps their attention and caring are called down to meet me there.

ACPE is the standard for spiritual care and education. Our diverse membership includes Certified CPE Educators, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapists, Spiritual Care Professionals and Practitioners, Pastoral Counselors, Chaplains, Faith Communities, and Seminaries. Our multi-disciplinary, multi-faith, multi-racial community of professionals provides education, connection, and formation through continuing education, networking, and leadership development.
ACPE is the premier, Department of Education recognized, organization that provides the highest quality CPE programs for spiritual care professionals of any faith and in any setting. We do this through a rigorous accreditation and certification process for centers and educators that provide CPE.
The depth of our training enables students to realize their full potential to strengthen the spiritual health of people in their care as well as themselves.
ACPE members are actively engaged in a wide variety of professional development activities including communities of practice, conferences, spiritual care research, and informal networking. We are more than just an association: we are a movement committed to the transformation of the human suffering. Our opportunities for formation and community enrich our member's work of healing and transforming people and communities in the US and across the globe.
