JUNE 2022

Recently I was reflecting on Acts 18:1-4. In this passage Paul's previous career as a tentmaker served him in his new apostolic mission.

Acts 18:1-4 After this he left Athens and went to Corinth.
There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. He went to visit them
and, because he practiced the same trade, stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. Every sabbath, he entered into discussions in the synagogue, attempting to convince both Jews and Greeks.

God used Paul's past experience to help him support his ministry. This got me thinking about where I find myself. I retired from teaching school after 34 years. Now I am happy to be the Station Manager here at Holy Family Radio. I realize that my first career was like a training for this apostolate. I am blessed to be able to transfer the skills and experiences I had working in schools to this important mission. I am so thankful that I have this opportunity. I sometimes forget that God knows what He is doing!

God can use us in many ways. He uses our past experiences to help us develop our present gifts.

Maybe YOU too have been in training for WHYF. Prayerfully consider if you might be called to volunteer here.

Please keep Holy Family Radio in your prayers.

Spiritual Advisor's Corner

It's the month of Corpus Christi! What a great month to bask in the joy of having such a great gift of the Body and Blood of Our Savior! It's always a great time to celebrate that gift, but especially this year, as there is so much turmoil surrounding life, particularly with the Supreme Court.

God gave us the gift of life, and the ability to be co-creators with him, as he gave us the opportunities to have families of our own. But that gift of life does not end here on earth; to the contrary, the gift of life extends into Eternity, where we are given the offer of living and reigning with him forever!

Eternal Life is given to us each time we receive the food of Jesus' Body and Blood. When we receive Him worthily, those gates open up to us. We are pro-life in every sense: here on earth, and in heaven! That is why, when we receive Jesus' life in His Body and Blood and enter into Eternity (while still on earth!), we witness to a Culture of Life here on earth. One can not be pro-life in one realm, and not in another. May God help us seek life, and its fullness, both on earth and in heaven.

Update from Russ Fry

Summertime, and the living is easy - so goes that old tune from "Porgy and Bess"! But that doesn’t seem to apply for a certain Catholic radio station in Central PA. We are busier than ever lately. We are in the process of delivering the auction items to the winners, planning our Fall Pledge Drive, doing new promos, recording poems from Lucinda Berry Hill’s second book, "A Second Cup With Jesus,” and continuing to work on recording our locally produced shows. If you would like to be considered as a guest on one of our programs, email us at contact@720whyf.com. We would love to hear from you. That also applies to our Knights of Columbus friends. Call or email us to do an interview on our show “Knight Talk.” Let your Brother Knights know what is going on in your Council and important initiatives that you would like your Brothers to support. “Knight Talk” is your forum to reach our listeners. Be sure to use it. And to our listeners, thank you so much for tuning in. Without you, there would be no WHYF on the air. You are our reason for being here! Please continue to support us and share us with your neighbors and friends.

Summer Church Festivals
Last year WHYF was able to attend several Summer Church Festivals. We look forward to participating again this year. This is where we need your help. We are looking for some volunteers to attend these festivals with us. WHYF needs people to give out information about us. It is fun and easy to do. We need to have at least two people at a time. Attending these festivals is an enjoyable way to help spread the news about WHYF. Please consider volunteering to spend a few hours with us at one of these great events.
Please check our website for
an updated list of these events.

June

June is the month of the Sacred Heart. A devotion long practiced privately, it was officially approved in the 1800s. Devotion the Sacred Heart encourages participation in Holy Hour Eucharistic Adoration and to receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of every month.
Now you can listen to our local programs as podcasts on our YouTube channel. Go to YouTube and search for Holy Family Radio.
Joke of the Month
Two nuns were shopping at a store. As they passed by the beer cooler, one nun said to the other, “Wouldn't a nice cool beer or two taste wonderful on a hot summer evening?” The second nun answered, “Indeed it would, Sister, but I would not feel comfortable buying beer, since I am certain it would cause a scene at the checkout stand.” “I can handle that without a problem," the other nun replied, and picked up a six pack and headed for the checkout.

The cashier had a surprised look on his face when the two nuns arrived with a 6 pack of beer. “We use beer for washing our hair,” the nun said. “Back at our nunnery, we call it Catholic shampoo.” Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter, pulled out a package of pretzel sticks, and placed them in the bag with the beer. He looked the nun straight in the eye, smiled, and said, “The curlers are on the house”.
