One Week Left to Submit Your Art!

This is the final week to submit your original artwork in the #PictureYourselfInGermany contest! Using the 2D visual artistic medium of your choice, #PictureYourselfInGermany by depicting a scene, either a self-portrait or POV, of your dream trip to Germany! Entries may be made digitally or using traditional media.


Life will imitate art for the grand prize winner, who will win free round-trip airfare (up to $1,700) to anywhere in Germany! Second prize will receive a free language course at the Goethe-Institut (online or in person), and third prize will receive a digital drawing tablet.


Submit your art by May 12.

Spring Deadline Announced

Short-Term Research Grants


Short-Term Research Grants are awarded for 1-6 months to highly qualified candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or Diploma, or in exceptional cases a Bachelor’s degree at the latest by the time they begin their grant supported research, or those who have already completed a PhD (postdocs).

Application deadline: May 15

Research Stays


DAAD offers grants for one to three months in all academic disciplines to scholars at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this particular program is to support short-term research stays and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.

Re-Invitation Grants


DAAD offers grants for one to three months in all academic disciplines to scholars at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this particular program is to enable former scholarship holders to carry out research projects in Germany and to maintain contacts as part of DAAD’s global alumni network.

DWIH Event

Shaping Climate Futures: The Social Drivers of Deep Decarbonization


Universität Hamburg and the DWIH New York are excited for this panel discussion with experts from Germany and the US. Join us if you would like to learn more about the role of climate justice and social inequalities in societal transformations towards deep decarbonization. The speakers will invite the audience to actively engage and share their own involvements and expectations with climate change. The discussion will be followed by a networking reception in the German House Restaurant on the 23rd floor.

Hear the World Differently

DAAD Alum Alexander Liebermann was featured on CBS News Sunday Morning for his skills in transcribing bird songs and incorporating them into his work as a composer. You can watch the segment here.


Originally from Berlin, Alexander completed his doctoral studies at the Manhattan School of Music and was a DAAD grantee. Learn more about him and his time in the US by listening to his episode of the Coffee Connections podcast hosted by our colleague, Hanni Geist.

Study at Freie Universität Berlin – Summer and Winter!


FUBiS is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits. FUBiS sessions run for 3 to 6 weeks in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language courses and participate in a rich cultural program.
