Dear Friends and Art Patrons,
Most times it’s hard to sit down and just write extemporaneously. Picking up a piece of charcoal and sketching comes automatically; writing words and feelings is quite a bit harder. It’s hard to be “up and positive” with the latest bad news or worry always hovering around us. My studio becomes even more of a sanctuary for me, my classes and students allow me to live in a world of pastels and joy, even for a few hours a day.
I find myself in restaurants at all hours of the day, not only because I am more comfortable going out to eat and enjoy life, but I’m now being allowed into the inner sanctum of the kitchens of some of the finest chefs I’ve seen. As many of you know, I’m the “ART” arm of the RESTAURANTS+ART Project for Wilmington, NC. This project is a love-letter to the restaurant industry, which has thrived even during the last two years, by bringing in chefs from all over, as well as native North Carolinians. There will be a large traveling exhibit of my paintings, celebrating these restaurants, with a portion of the sales going to a food charity that will be announced soon. Please keep watching my newsletters, website and social media for more restaurant paintings as well as other new work.
