County Joins State Agencies in Celebrating I Love My Park Day


I love My Park Day is an opportunity for the community to come together to participate in various cleanup, improvement and beautification events at New York State parks, historic sites and on public lands. Volunteers have been vital in the success of important projects including shoreline cleanups, planting trees, plants and shrubs, restoring trails and wildlife habitats, removal of invasive species and site improvement initiatives – all of which have helped to prepare parks for the start of peak tourism season.

April Marked Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month


The second most-common neurodegenerative disease following Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes involuntary or uncontrollable movements including shaking, stiffness and difficulty with balance and coordination. Parkinson’s disease is estimated to cost $52 billion annually in the United States as a result of direct and indirect costs.

Visit LivCo Celebrates “One Year Until Totality” as Planning Underway for Solar Eclipse in 2024


In just under a year, Livingston County will experience a rare celestial event set to bring thousands of visitors to the area. On April 8, 2024, Livingston County will be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse, which occurs when the moon completely covers the face of the sun, casting a shadow on the Earth. It will be the first total solar eclipse in the area in nearly 100 years. The last total solar eclipse in Livingston County occurred in 1925 and the next will not happen again until 2144.

Livingston County Teams up With Community for Annual Out of the Darkness Walk


On April 15, Livingston County and the Genesee Valley Health Partnership teamed up with SUNY Geneseo and Sisters Making a Change for the annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk. The event, which is aimed at engaging with youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide, has become a signature student fundraising event for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

Seaman First Class (Quartermaster) Allen Preston Ruliffson, Jr. has been named the Livingston County Veteran of the Month in April and was formally recognized at the Board of Supervisors Meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

NEW YORK STATE ANNOUNCES FUNDING TO PROTECT WATER QUALITY AND SOIL HEALTH AROUND THE FINGER LAKES


The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) has announced $370,000 for the Finger Lakes Cover Crop Initiative. The initiative helps support farmers’ use of cover crops to reduce erosion, implement watershed management plans, and protect water quality in and around the 11 Finger Lakes: Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles, and Otisco.

Livingston County DMV Encourages New Yorkers to “Make a Splash” During Donate Life Month


The Livingston County Board of Supervisors has declared April 2023 as Donate Life Month in an effort to highlight and promote awareness of the benefits of organ donation. Additionally, the County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is teaming up with Donate Life New York State in observance of National Donate Life Month (NDLM), celebrating the lifesaving impact made by organ, eye and tissue donors. Donate Life NYS is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to increase organ, eye and tissue donation in New York State through collaborative advocacy, education, research and promotion. The theme of 2023’s Donate Life Month, “Make a Splash,” was inspired by the natural world of a pond coming to life in the spring.

The second annual Al Lorenz Park Family Fest returns again this year on Saturday, May 20th, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the County’s own Al Lorenz Park in Mount Morris.

County Leaders Deploy ARPA Funding in Support of Mental Health Resources in Livingston County


Last summer, a small crowd gathered in front of a newly constructed building in Avon for the ribbon cutting of the new Noyes Mental Health and Wellness Center. They had come to help celebrate the addition of a much-needed and often overlooked component of public health: mental health services.

Livingston County Receives Federal Grant to Promote Affordable Connectivity Program


The County, which is scheduled to receive $50,000 in total over two years, will use the money to promote the availability of the ACP through radio advertisements, billboard placements, direct mail campaigns and social media content designed to spread awareness and potentially help qualifying households save money on their monthly internet bill.

Livingston County Actively Recruiting for Summer Youth Employment Program


The program is open to anyone between the ages of 14-20 that live within Livingston County and meet eligibility requirements including household income. Applicants in foster care or in households that receive cash assistance, Medicaid, HEAP, SSI and SNAP benefits are automatically eligible.

Department of Health Receives State Grant to Support Critical Nutrition Programs


The County will receive $771,900 annually for five years to assist with its award-winning WIC program while also providing financial support for its Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program.
