Finding middle ground
After multiple shootings over the Fourth of July weekend, including the horrific mass shooting in Highland Park, Bishop Hughes reflects, "We have protested, we have written letters, we've stood firmly, we've prayed. And if there's a thing that I feel that is missing, and it is not ours to do alone, it is when a community comes together and works for the common good." (Time: 4:52.)

What to watch:

One of the most important items of business at GC2022 will be the election on Saturday, July 9 of a new President of the House of Deputies to succeed the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, who is term-limited after serving 10 years. The President of the House of Deputies is the second-ranking officer of the church after the Presiding Bishop. There are five declared candidates, three clergy and two lay; you can watch brief videos of each of the candidates here.

GC2022 is also expected to approve the transfer of the Diocese of Puerto Rico from Province IX to Province II, which includes the Diocese of Newark. Learn more.

Prayer for a Church Convention or Meeting (BCP p. 818):

Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel in The 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
