“Cultivating Kindness, Relationships, and Growth for all.”
News You Can Use: February 4, 2022

Dear CCGS Families,
I hope your kids enjoyed the snow day on Wednesday! Although we had another unexpected shortened week, there were still so many rainbows to be seen. This week while visiting classrooms I saw our preschool students and teachers in Miss Kelly's room cheering for a student who finally joined in on the "We're so glad you're here today" song. To someone who doesn't know this student, it may not seem like a big deal, but for those of us who visit as often as we can, every small step is a huge celebration of growth. This week I also had the opportunity to spend time with some of our third grade students. They are so motivated by the "Battle of the Books" that they are reading any chance they get. I love hearing about the books they are reading and how excited they are when they do well on a comprehension quiz.

Each week I offer a way for you to share a celebration or ask questions on this survey. If you would like a specific reply, please add your name so I can get back to you. If you comment about a specific teacher- I send this directly to them and I know it really brightens their day!

  • Kid's Heart Challenge: We are continuing with our kids heart challenge!
  • 100th Day pushed back a day: Our 100th Day of school was pushed back a day due to the snow day. We will now be celebrating on Thursday, February 10th.
  • Scholastic Book Fair: Your student will have an opportunity to create a wishlist in school and shop in school on their library day. However, we understand that some families will want to come and shop with their student. If you are interested in shopping after school with your student, please sign up for a timeframe using this link. We are asking for sign ups to prevent a large crowd in the library. All visitors will also need to complete the visitor QR code health screener.
  • Health: If you are notified that your child was exposed to someone at school, we can now do test to stay procedures. I am providing you with the permission slip for that form here. Please do not sign and send this at this time, only if we call you to let you know your child has been exposed at school. If anyone at home is sick, please call the nurse and keep your child home unless your student is vaccinated. If your child is vaccinated and you would like to share that with our nurse to prohibit exclusion, please email that to [email protected]
  • Masks and Coats: Please send an extra mask with your child each day. They often break or get dirty or wet. Students will continue to go outside for PE and recess even on snowy days. Please send gloves, hats, snow pants, and coats. Students can play in the snow, but they cannot throw snowballs. Our cut off temperature is 15 degrees (feels like temperature) with the wind chill. If you need help getting your child winter items, please contact [email protected] We have resources for you!
  • Car Rider and Walker Reminders: Please have your red or green name showing for pick up time whether a walker or a car rider. K-3 parents, please make a right turn only into the rear lot at the end of the day. Please do not block the driveways on Mill and Orange Street so those families can get out of their driveways.
  • Lost and Found: Is your child missing an item? Have them check the lost and found in the main hallway!
  • Lunch: Students have 3 lunch choices every day. The menu is sent home with every student and is also on the Y115 app. You can also click here to find that!
  • Devices: Please send your child's charger to school each day. It is also the responsibility of the student to charge each night. We have several students coming without charged devices and no way to charge.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Hamm

5Essentials Parent Survey Reminder
As a parent, you now have an opportunity to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school called the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The 10 minute survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.

The Parent Survey Supplement is now open and will close on March 11, 2022. We need at least 20% of our D115 parents to participate so please complete the survey today!

To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Brent Edwards at [email protected]. Thank you so much for your participation and helping to provide key insights for improvement at your child’s school. Please find more information at Yorkville 5Essentials Parent Survey
Katherine Battersby will be virtually visiting our K-3 students in all Y115 elementary schools on February 11th! She is the author of many adorable picture books as well as a new graphic novel called Cranky Chicken, which will surely cause lots of laughter as kids (and grown-ups!) enjoy this story of a grumpy chicken and the cutest little worm named Speedy! We are so excited for this visit and love that Katherine will be Zooming with us from Canada and sharing stories of her many fascinating jobs which led her to a life of writing, and the experiences she’s had living all over the world. If you would like to order a copy of one of Katherine’s books, please send all orders back to your school library no later than Wednesday, January 19th. We look forward to this exciting day of cranky fun!
This student has been following the four CCGS Cornerstones this week! She will be leading the school in the pledge next week.
Miss Prentice's class has been working as a team and showing kindness to others. They were our golden platter winners this week and will get a recess with Mrs. Hamm or Mrs. Anderson next week.
Here are a few pictures from the fun and learning taking place at CCGS!
